I think the best selling S model being yhethe most expensive one points to the buyers upgrading.

That's a really good point, together with the lacklustre software we have a decent case that they are upgrading.

Having said that, this is a conclusion based on very limited information. Hopefully we can gather some information to either support or contradict the hypothesis that these are repeat costumers. Waiting for the corresponding npds, August and September, is a life sentence.

Keep an eye on any mentions of MAU. I think January NPD was the last time Microsoft made any mention of it. If Microsoft doesn't say anything when the August NPD results come out, then there will be a good case of a significant portion of XB1 S preorders being rebuys.

Here is today's update to the monthly rankings:

XBO S 2TB: #16* (↑2)
PS4 CoD bundle: #20 (↓1)
XBO 3-game bundle: #42 (↓3)
XBO Halo 5 LE bundle: #62 (re-entry)
New 3DS XL: #66 (↓8)

Now for the update to the Week 3 rankings:

XBO S 2TB: #4* (↓1)
XBO Halo 5 LE bundle: #17 (re-entry)
XBO S 500GB: #48* (↓17)
PS4 CoD bundle: #51 (↑2)
New 3DS XL (black): #83 (↓9)
New 3DS XL (red): #84 (re-entry)
XBO 3-game bundle: #85 (↓29)

Unless I overlooked it and it was already on the charts before today. That's one hell of a re-entry for the Halo 5 bundle. I wonder if this new price cut will succeed where April's cut didn't, or if X1S pre-orders will cannibalize XBO sales for the next couple of months.

The Halo 5 console bump was because one of Amazon's sellers was offloading it for $269 or $279 for a few days.

Nope, Andrew House said weeks before E3 that Neo wouldn't be shown at te show, it also isn't releasing this year so why would they show it so soon. The sooner they'll show it's March next year.

I wouldn't trust the rumored specs either, everyone in the industry expected the XOne to be more powerful than the PS4 until the very last moment.

Sony already solved that puzzle, the Xbox one was more powerfull because originally the PS4 had 4GB ram they changed that to 8GB in one of the last moments possible. here is a nice quote

"Murakami stated that the PS4’s increase from 4GB to 8GB of RAM was approved during that line of questioning. He said that the Knack team were involved in those hardware discussions and asked for the RAM increase after learning that Sony was going to rest on 4GB. The company agreed, and that’s effectively why the console is the way it is today. It was quite a simple decision, it seems."

Even with 4GB RAM, the PS4 was still more powerful than the XOne, the GPUs was between 30-50% more powerful and that's the most important component for performance while the RAM was less but a lot faster than the XOne's RAM, it ended being equal in capacity and lot faster of course.

I'd say that's a reasonable assumption.

Don't forget that the 2TB has a release date, the others haven't.
