Atari 2600 is my fave of the non-big 4

Around the Network

Tough call between the 2600 and 3DO.

The wonderswan? Yeah, I'm in possession of two of them actually, currently trying to sell one on ebay.  I also own the Turbografx but not really, I have the Japanese PC Engine which is the US equivalent to the Turbo. It's smaller and looks much better imo.

Some of the more hard to find games, and expensive games, have pushed me to emulation in certain cases though. Like that darn Magical Chase selling for 100K on ebay.

Ah cool, I was just thinking that a lot of the joys of an older system comes from the system itself, when it comes to odd little handhelds I have a beautiful Neo Geo Pocket Color which has one of the best control sticks that I've ever held... while the PSP can emulate the whole system and all its games... it can't actually emulate just how good it feels using the original hardware.

The other weird handheld I use on occasion is a nokia N-Gage lol such a weird console... but really has some great titles and ports on it.

Yeah, the Neo Geo Pocket Color is a neat little handheld as well. Never owned one but have emulated it. Having the original hardware and software always makes the experience more genuine. As for the N-Gage, I don't even wanna go there. Wasn't that the one that had the 3D games with interruptions by in-game advertisements?

Nope, not that I experienced ever, it was sort of before you could have had streaming or even pictures of adverts sent to a mobile device, it is the Nokia phone shaped like a Taco and with a portrait shaped screen, has some good ports on it of PS1 games like Tony Hawks Pro Skater, Tomb Raider, Pandemonium, it even has an elder scrolls game on the thing, little powerhouse 100mhz cpu in it but fucking terrible control layout, screen orientation... phone was close to unusable since you had to hold it like a taco to talk into it.... just so much bad, but still you can't emulate those things which are wrong when you have it as a window on your PC monitor and you're using a X360 pad or so it's just not the same.

My pick remains the Atari 2600, but the Neo Geo deserves a special mention for its fantastic arcade conversions.

The right answer is the Turbo-Duo (or even the TG-16)

 - It has an amazing 16-bit library

 - First CD based system (with amazing CD based games)

Some of the best shooters ever made:

Blazing laser

Gates of Thunder

Lords of thunder

+  Ys book 1 & 2

and many more...

bonus for the coolest cart games format ever! the Hu-Card!

If you weren't sure about the system btw, I felt the need to clarify just how good it looks as a handheld gaming device

Check that shit out, face D-Pad, complete set of 12 buttons you could use for gaming... (no shoulder buttons) but yeah, because of all that going on at the face of the phone where you would normally have... ya know, the phone parts (speaker, mic) It means these go on the side so when someone rings you you have to hold it like this so you can hear them and visa versa....

edit - Removed Tired picture of me holding an N-Gage to my head lol, can google Taco if you want to see what the phone looked like in use!

Literally felt like I was a caveman holding the thing when using it as a phone (I used it for about 6 months before I got another phone for making calls and kept the N-Gage for gaming) but yeah, just terrible design.... pardon the fact that I'm a bit destroyed tired looking in this... it is almost 3am here and I am holding a Taco to my head!

I don't have many games for either of these yet, but I still feel like my answer has to be TurboGrafx-16/Turbo CD. I don't think I can really pick one over the other right now.

Turbo CD. For 1993 this sounds so good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bORGHpivY_E

No love for the Colecovision? For shame! :P
