Forums - Microsoft - Best Gears of War game

The best is...

Gears of War 30 24.39%

Gears of War 2 48 39.02%

Gears of War 3 39 31.71%

Gears of War Judgement 6 4.88%

Total:123

#1 for its sweet multiplayer glitches, as well as how engaging the mp is itself. It had the most 'raw' feeling and sniping was at its best.

I actually find it very hard to call.

The first game is a classic. It forged the template for modern cover-based shooters, set a new bar for video game graphics, and created a gritty world with fearsome foes and a badass sense of style.

Gears 2 was not as original or innovative, but it refined what made the first game great, and upped the ante in terms of scope.

Gears 3 then followed the same pattern, not really doing anything new, but improving what had come before.

From a purely mechanical standpoint, 3 is the best, as it benefits from the most refined version of the core gameplay, but at the same time the first game's impact at the time makes it arguably more of a standout achievement, while the second has the most memorable setpieces of the three in my opinion.

Loved horde mode in Gears 2. Also really liked the team-based MP in Judgement but sadly not everyone would care to cooperate all the time.

Poor Judgement. :(

I haven't gotten round to playing it yet. I really should, I adored 1-3.

Judgement is actually pretty great in my opinion. Good story, fun gameplay, split screen and top notch 7th gen graphics. Arguably the best paced in the series as well if you want more action and less story.

If anything the PvP took a step back but had some interesting stuff.

Anywho, I'm gonna say Gears 3 is overall the best for campaign and MP.

GeoW 4. I'm from the future.

Gears 1. For me it kind of kicked off last gen as the first game that really felt "next gen" to me.

And the MP was so damn good, even with ridiculous host advantage.

Only played gears 1 and 2 last gen and I think gears 2 was better than 1 aside from the disappointment final boss

The story was bad, honestly. It was really a throw-away excuse to have Baird & Co. doing things around the globe. There were a lot of things that could have been clarified better had they took a different stance, but I guess it is what it is.

That being said, the game isn't bad by any means. Aftermath was a nice unlockable and very fun to play. The extra objectives in the campaign spiced things up, and as always, any co-op game can be enjoyed even more with friends. While the new Horde mode sucked in comparison to the previous one, the novelty allowed for some fun matches (and the team-based aspect of it made you more dependent on your friends).

PvP was terrible, but since I got out around twenty to thirty hours of enjoyement on the campaing and extras alone, I'm not complaining.

Gears of War 3 had the best story. Gears of War is a classic. Gears of War 2 was a lot of fun and had a lot of great jokes.

In the end I have to give it to Gears 2 as it had the best multiplayer. Gears of War has always been about the multiplayer and that is it's defining aspect.
