 The thing I found most intriguing is Chris just wandering around a village with the people ignoring him (even though he walks past them and even bumps into them).  How will this play into the game, mewonders?

Decent chance the game is on a low difficulty just to show it off. Pretty common with trailers, early gameplay, etc.

Yeah, it's likely on easy mode, but even on easy hostile enemies wouldn't just ignore him when he bumps them unless they aren't supposed to attack in that scene.

They were just walking right by him because they weren't Zombified yet. It looks like you get to walk around the village for a while before things truly break down. That's a nice touch, it means there can be plenty of scripted events in which villagers attack other villagers.
