Well, it does need a label. Not me, but for example, eSports gamers sometimes can't get visas as athletes to compete abroad, hence the recent White House petition which, as it is with White House petitions, won't achieve shit. |
Sounds more like they just need to update the rules themselves.

Why the hell does it matter? Why is this always brought up? Who the fuck cares? People always try to label every particular "thing" as a game, sport, neither, blah blah blah. What's the point? They're all competitions and they all require different skills. Enjoy them for what they are.
I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

According to Wiki and very likely other sources (pro players for example), it's a "mind sport".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess
With both chess, games and general sports, they require movement and every sport does very much require you to use your brain rather than deliberately shut it off and act like some braindead Neanderthal, this would also mean that a game of wits like chess can count as a mind sport and thus a sport of it's own category.
If you take a look at Korean SCII players you will find that their physical APM is off the charts and their reaction time is insanely fast along with their thought process, again Darts is counted as an actual sport and that definitely most certainly requires one to use both their brain and their acute hand reflexes.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
There's nothing to consider. It's not a sport. Just call it competitive gaming. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, as is being discussed, it depends on how 'sport' is defined.
The International Olympic Committiee considers chess a sport. Fishing is considered a sport. Cup stacking is considered a sport.
I would bet money that many professional gamers burn more calories in a tournament then the people in any of those sports.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
Okay defenition of sport according to google: "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment" so no it's not a sport it doesn't take phsycial exertion but it is a form of entertainment.

If Chess/Billard Pool/Bowling is considered a sport then yes.
I swear with all the fricken ads this site has you would think there be one that shows products to treat memory loss. This topic again lol.
