According to Wiki and very likely other sources (pro players for example), it's a "mind sport".

With both chess, games and general sports, they require movement and every sport does very much require you to use your brain rather than deliberately shut it off and act like some braindead Neanderthal, this would also mean that a game of wits like chess can count as a mind sport and thus a sport of it's own category.
If you take a look at Korean SCII players you will find that their physical APM is off the charts and their reaction time is insanely fast along with their thought process, again Darts is counted as an actual sport and that definitely most certainly requires one to use both their brain and their acute hand reflexes.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
