Yes, but the facts remain:

1) XBox360 is selling better in Europe than XBox1

2) XBox360 is selling better in Europe in 2008 than it did in 2007 (which was better than 2006)

So regardless of what the PS3 is doing, MS is growing in Europe and taken overall marketshare compared to last gen.

Makes you wonder what would happen if MS bought out a hand held?? I think it would be crushed, but then again nobody predicted the Wii's success........

While I think you're sort of correct - that MS has improved this generation and made itself a more viable competitor to Sony - I also think a lot of that is due to reasons out of their control - namely that it wouldn't be here without a lot of help from Wii and Sony's own poor decision making. Moreover, I suspect that this is not really where MS wanted the 360 to be - trailing in Europe, still DOA in Japan, and plagued by reputation-killing technical problems.

Whatever are Microsoft's goals, only they know! albeit it's safe to especulate making lots of money and taking down sony probably are somewhere on their goal list.

360 hardware shipments for Europe dropped in 2007 compared to 2006. IMO unexpected considering the release of Halo 3, by far the 360´s most anticipated sequel to the most succesful XBox franchise.

2007 was the year the shops were selling all the 360's MS overshipped by 2006 year's end. Since this site has plenty sold-through numbers, you could have checked that up - but oh wait, you're just spinning numbers in whatever direction makes things look bad for MS. Gosh, you are so predictable.

Well if 360's goal was to fail, both in the market and literally haha, then it has achieved that.

I disagree with the statement that the PS3 is "so far behind" in every way. The PS3 reached 11 million way faster then the 360 did. The PS3 is starting to take over the USA, it has taken the EU, and Japan is its buffer for if it does get outsold in the US or EU.

3rd party support is growing, multiplat games are improving.  They used to be so horrid game reviews gave its games a full 2 or 3 points lower then the 360's. Now its only a .2 or less or heck in some cases the PS3 version is better. 

Can't say they have because their goal was to be the leader of this generation.  So far Nintendo will take that honor.

I will continue to hold my prediction that the PS3 will pass the 360 by the Fall.
