Forums - Sales - Prediction Overwatch will Outsell Call of Duty this year.

Thoughts?

No Way 225 63.20%

Will happen 26 7.30%

Possible 64 17.98%

Not Sure 19 5.34%

Nintendoomed 22 6.18%

Total:356

I think some people are overestimaging Overwatch's numbers on home consoles. I'm sure it will do very well on PC, but I'm not sure it will find an audience on Xbox and PS4. There's a high skill ceiling in Overwatch. And the game demands communication, teamwork, and mastering several different characters. Nothing about that translates to mass appeal, unfortunately.

This thread should become a lot more interesting after next week when overwatch launches. With all the hype (largest beta this gen, praise by everyone, $40) it may be the go to game for the summer.

That head start plus infinite warfare's negative reception and end of year launch may put overwatch ahead

How do you guys know the negative reception was real for yearly COD buyers?

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

2nd most disliked video on YouTube. Sure cod has been hated in the past, but not like this

The console market is the trickiest part about overwatch, but I personally think overwatch has a great chance to be the game to play over the summer. the fact that it encourages teamwork means that it is an amazing game to play with friends, and from my experience in the open beta, solo queueing went well. The game is also certainly more forgiving than call of duty where it's typically the first to react that gets the kill (some people like this and that's fine).

Positive feedback loop.  It's getting negative dislikes because game news keeps talking about it getting negative dislikes.

As for the poll.  Are you mad?

If the press (and people) continuously dislike it, then regardless of the final product, it will be at a disadvantage due to the established stigma that it is bad. Something similar happened to the Xbox one when it was revealed.

as for the poll, why would I be mad? I may be in the minority (as far as this site goes), but I'm still confident in my answer. And I respect everyone else's judgement on the matter

As the black sheep of a big family of typical CoD+Fifa+GTA Sony fans I'm in an advantageous position. Last week I asked them about Overwatch and none of them knew what was that thing.

It will sell more on PC but not on consoles

That still does not automatically mean those dislikes are yearly COD buyers.  The dislikes are not surprising with all the internet talk about disliking it.  It was almost like a campaign to generate dislikes.

I prefer battlefield but I find it hard to believe that all of the sudden people love EA/Dice after complaining so much about Battlefield 4, Hardline and also Star Wars Battlefront all of which are either Battlefield, EA or Dice related.

I have said this on other threads about this topic:

COD hate = normal

Battlefield EA/Dice sudden love = not normal.

I would not be surprised if a decent percentage of these upset people were not planning on buying COD in the first place.  Then I think about comments I have seen on Battlefield/X1 marketing and it seems a percentage, how big I do not know, are excited about the marketing deal more than the game.

A $60 game with no single player, new IP, selling 9M on consoles?

Nope

I know what the norm is, but I am saying that this cod is being disliked beyond the norm. It's not going to get dethroned, I'm not saying that. I am saying that it will be on decline after black ops 3. That and the other positive factors of overwatch may give it the edge (especially the 6 month head start)
