Mine's actually 1>2>3>4

But maybe that's because I think the story is actually the important bit.

When you take out the "innovations" in gameplay...

1 was something new

2 was just more of the same, too similar to 1 to be that engaging

3 was even more of the same + hallucinations (=waste of time)

4 weakest story-wise and the series was getting stale by this point

Therefore 1>2>3>4

That's WAT

To those who say they liked the desert... why? Is it solely because it looks good? Because that part was so boring.

The walking bit did look good, but it was the horse ride and encounter in the deserted town that stayed with me.
Uncharted 3 didn't really start for me until you catch the cargo plane, apart from the sinking ship segment.

I'd like to add to the puzzle difficulty discussion: Don't think about them in the context of gameplay, think about them in the context of the story, Nate usually puts the pieces together because he has vital information that is needed to solve them. I mean try solving them without using the journal and skip all the cut scenes, you would have to be extremely lucky to solve them like that.

It's the same with every profession, a mechanic has better understanding of fixing cars than a plumber because he has studied for years how to repair them. Now Nate knows Latin, history, religion, and archeology, solving these puzzles is his profession, the whole point is that he can solve the puzzles that others can't as long as he knows the context, in the game's world he has spent years studying these things and it has to be shown somewhere.

While I don't agree that it's better, I can say I liked it just about as much, which is to say, a lot. I don't get the relative amount of negativity UC3 gets. I've seen people slam it while comparing it to UC2, as if it were some deviant offshoot, which is mind blowing to me.

I liked Uncharted 3 better because the set pieces were pretty amazing. The cargo plane, the ship graveyard, the storm and the horse chase sequences were pretty amazing. I also liked the MP better. But it's true that the shooting mechanics were better in 2.

For me I prefer 2 over 3 even though I did enjoy playing both games.

Agreed. It's more replayable, has a better villain who doesn't just scream all the time, has a MUCH better ending and final boss that feels more true to the series, and has better set pieces as a whole. Sure the train is the best single one but all the ones in Uncharted 3 add up to a greater whole than all the ones in Uncharted 2.

The problem for me was that the amazing set pieces in 3 failed to impress me because they were all spoiled by their own reveals and trailers.

Story-wise it had huge tacked on sections that didn't drive the plot at all but were only there to provide for another set piece showcase.

Also it felt liked it lacked the storytelling to present all the character motivations accordingly.

It still had it's moments though.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
