Forums - Gaming - IGN ranks the best mainline FF games

FF X is too low and FF III is to high on that list, imo.

VIII, X and VI are the top 3 IMO.

For me:

3 - FF IX
2 - FF VII
1 - FF IV

FFVI is not even close to my top 3.

heh, if you're including 6 alongside my two favourites then it must be good! I should probably get round to playing it at some point

Yeah you need to find it and get on it! But yeah it is rare to find people who love VIII are one of their favorites and it was easily mine closey followed by X lol. We are so in the minority.

At least they got number 1 right.

IX and XII are so underrated. IX specially, its gorgeous in every sense, it has this feeling of "innocence" regardless of how dark the plot gets sometimes.

XII is beautiful and got rid of your generic love story, that alone deserves props.

The only reason FFVI is number one because it is the last Nintendo mainline FF game. #NoLiesDetected

This list is pretty terrible. But I'm glad they ranked IX and XII higher than most people do. This is PROBABLY my top 5. Hard to pick though, really. I want to add X, because I loved it at the time (put in over 200 hours and even got a shit ton of clear spheres to max out character stats), but there is just SO much about it that annoys the hell out of me.

1. VI
2. IX
3. VII
4. XII
5. IV

Exactly my sentiments. IX is way underrated. After having two snobby, angsty lead characters, it was nice that Zidane was such a fun loving thief.

I heard that as of May 13th, 2016, the number 6 is the new number 1(vice versa) worldwide.
