Forums - Sony - What if MGS4 and GT5 P bombs.?

Regarding GT5P in Japan (which was already released, so we can look at how it did):

GTA4 Prologue Japan PS2: 210k first week, 97k second week, lifetime = 790k
GTA5 Prologue Japan PS3: 109k first week, 31k second week, lifetime so far = 220k (with no signs of having strong legs)

This shows that it's not at all stupid to suggest that MGS4 *may* do worse than previous MGS games in Japan.

You can't say GT5P bombed in Japan because we don't know how many people got the download version....my guess would be about .5-.8 the number of people that got the BD version.

You're right, but it seems that the number of downloads wasn't big. Poliphony Digital has the game's sales at 250k as of December 2007, so it should include downloads:

It seems that GT5:P didn't do well in Japan. It will do much better in Europe though.

no offence, but i don't see how that link has proven anything. i'm not saying you're wrong, or that it doesn't include downloads, but there is no indication that the list includes downloads.

Since every other source has the game at 220k 163k (as of December 2007), something has to explain the difference - either it's shipped numbers, or it includes downloads, or both. So yeah, there's a possibility it doesn't include downloads (I hadn't thought about the "shipped" possiblity before).

But I really don't see why they wouldn't include downloads seeing as they're sales too.

Actually, it shows it did quite well as a  download.  It says it is as of December 2007.  Vgchartz has GT5P selling about 163k by the end of December.

No matter what's happening with downloaded/shipped numbers, I think it's pretty safe to say (although not 100% certain) that GT5:P didn't come close to GTA4:P in sales. As hard as I try, I can't find any more information about its sales so I guess we'll just have to go with what's  in the thread already.

If you compare Gran Turismo 4: Prologue's sales to Gran Turismo 5: Prologue's sales in Japan it adds strength to the argument that you should expect lower sales for Gran Truismo 5: Prologue ...

In general, I think people need to remember that only a small percentage of the people who buy a particular game are "die-hard" fans of the series; most are only fans of the genre who already own the system, or gamers who become interested in the game because it is a high profile game on a system they already own. In general, because they're less people who own a PS3, or are buying a PS3 (in comparison to the PS2 when games in these series were released for it) you should expect lower sales. How much lower the sales will be mainly depends on how much competition the games have when they're released on both the PS3 and from games on any platform in general.

If the games bomb then the one I don't want BOMBED is that GT5 racing game! That game looks too good to go to waste. As for MSG4, 3 million LTD won't be so bad....to me anyways!

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

GT4P got .79 in Japan, GT5P (including downloads) should be around .35 - .4 now in Japan, it won't reach GT4P numbers, but it should reach gold in Japan alone, which is not bad for a "demo".

@Yakuzaice

Yeah I missed that what can you say hundreds of games its easy to forget a release here or there.

I understand where you're coming from about the bombing of games...but these aren't new IPs like Lair. Most of the PS3 games that have "bombed" are mostly new IPs. There's only one thing, MGS isn't new, GT isn't new...people KNOW that these games have been successful. So whether or not these games are actually good to the majority, it's going to sell simply because of the names.

So far all the discussion on the Sony forum is regarding how good MGS 4 and GT5 P is going to be... and nobody try to remember the past trend... apart from few partial hits like DMC4 and (i don't remember any other) :), all the games have mostly bombed on PS3

So to cut the long story short.. i would say there is a reasonable chance that MGS4 and GT5 P bombs... So far PS3 has no million seller on day 1. and i m not sure if it will have 1 game like this in this yr atleast.

So there are 2 question wot amount of sales will determine that the MGS4 or GT5 P is a success or a bomb..

i think for GT5 P anything below 500k on week one in each Europe and NA is going to classify it as a bombed

For MGS4 i think anything below750k on week one in each Europe and NA and 400k for Jap is going to classify it as a bombed...

Second question is wot is percentage chances of each of these games to get bombed again on PS3..

I would say there is a reasonable chance like 35% for them to get bombed...

So wot u say.?

-wat
Sounds like you havent been in the million seller section for the PS3 for a while now. Go back and check it out champ.

-Sounds more like what you want to happen, meaning what wont happen.

- hahahaha. Dude youre hilarious.

Jesus lord man, youre trying too hard to classify everything you want to not see succeed as a bomb.
