Wii U sales have been pretty consistently terrible lost-launch onwards.

It only topped 100k in the US for a non-holiday month like once or twice in its entire life cycle which is mind bogglingly bad, I don't think even the Dreamcast did that.

Because that 's when the only games worth buying came out. And I'm pretty sure the non holiday release was when Splatoon launched.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Wii U was still sub-100k for NPD even in the Splatoon launch month.

Splatoon largely had a hardware bump for the Japanese market, and before we get tooooo worked up about that, going from say 6k sales/week to 10-12k/week while decent, is still a very poor number generally speaking.

You might be right.

*Edit* Did some research, it was Hyrule Warriors release that put it over 100k.

"holding off"

lol

What makes you think they are doing that? It's simply not ready.

You honestly don't think they got the final specs and at least one console made when it will be in homes in 10 months? Also, dev kits are out right? Nintendo is making games for it right? And they would reveal it in a digital event, so a little hollywood magic can be used even in they don't have the console box ready to show. All they'd need is a working controller which if the previous statements are true they would HAVE to have a few working controllers..... How is it not ready?

Actually, yes i do. I'm pretty unconvinced they will even make the march release.

This is the same debate we had before about the release date. You guys think this is all easy and fast to do. It can't be farther from the truth. Nintendo isn't "holding off", Nintendo is doing it has fast as they can. These things take alot of planning and preparation. It would be more accurate to say they are "rushing it".

If you don't think they could have things ready to show by E3 I would just say I disagree.

I do think that E3 is still an important time. I think what you refer to as far as social media and company specific events are the future of said E3, but I think having a time frame where all companies come together and show everyone their plans for the next year will never be irrelevant.

But I'm fine if we disagree on that.

I don't think E3 has much of a future at all once this is in full swing tbh, companies like Square Enix are already holding their own events like they did with FFXV to announce the release date and all something that years ago would have been exclusive to E3 events. We're moving away from the era of a set time frame to one were companies will do events more strategically in the year, E3 has two massive problems that contributes to this, one it costs companies a lot of money to be there and two it's shown to have no influence on the performance of products in the market, that is determined by other factors. If you want an idea of the future you've already seen it in NDs, more companies at some point will adopt this approach and will only turn up at events if they feel like it or if the costs are covered.

I agree on everything except for ditching a week where all companies share important console information, I think this is a practice that helps all the companies, and I don't see a benefit in ditching it.

It's a good thing for Sony as I got sick of waiting and bought a PS4.
As a long time Nintendo fan I expect delays. I would have a heart attack if Nintendo actually met a release date.

Shoulda waited for the PS4RealDealNeo brah.

I'd be incensed if I had bought a PS4 this year.

as of right now the only people even remotely interested in it are Ninty fans on forums.

Ya, i dont expect your average Joe to be excited for two letters, obviously the only people interested in a device that hasnt been shown yet are internet nerds.

How much hype is there for PS4 Neo currently? Not much outside of nerds on gaming forums, do you know why? Because its a yet to be revealed device which average people have no clue even exists.

Edit: Also is Nintendo really being that secretive? NX is releasing next March, that is 10 months away. Neither PS4 nor Xbox One had been revealed at this point. PS4 was revealed 9 months from launch and Xbox One 6 months from launch. A reveal between July & September would be right in line with those two products.

There's more hype for PS4.5 than there is for NX and NX has been known about for much longer. There was more hype for PS4 and Xbox one before they were ever revealed, than there is for NX currently.

I'm gonna say helpful. Why? Because a company wouldn't waste these important release times and info revealing points, for no reason. The NX games are in no shape to be shown. Can you imagine revealing the system. And only have one or two games there. Everyone would be like: "The fuck?" Yeah, they can say: "We'll have 20 games at launch....blah blah blah." Who really listens. people look at the bad side, over anything else.

I'll bring up Federation Force. That game did a DOA reveal. Just because a few things they did with the series. There's pretty much nothing Nintendo can do to convince people.

As for Zelda. For the people saying: we really only care about the NX version. Explain why you think that. What is gonna be REALLY that different? At most it's gonna be 720 VS 1080, a special area, and the controller input. Which could be the same. If BC is avalible. Nothing more.

Is there more hype for PS4.5? What is that statement based on?

Are you talking about the average consumer? If I had to guess, I would say the vast majority of people have never even heard of NX or Neo.

Are you talking about people on forums? If that's the case than I would say you are probably wrong since NX is just about the most talked about subject on gaming forums.

So by what metric is Neo more hyped than NX? They are both devices that the majority of consumers have never heard about and are primarily being discussed by nerds on the internet.
