Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 game recommendations

I'm getting back into my 360 in a big way, and was wondering which worthwhile titles I might have missed out on.

I currently have:

- All Halo

- All Gears

- All Mass Effect

- Alan Wake

- Vanquish

- Dead Space (Didn't really like 2-3)

- Alien Isolation

- Bioshock 1/ Infinite

(Already played and don't like GTA/Red Dead, already own the COD games on Wii/Wii U, not into most indie fare)

Any suggestions about others I should try?

Go to the marketplace, then Arcade... gold!

Goddamit Curl, you missed some amazing gems on the way! Bolded are (imo) the must-have ones.

· Catherine, if you want a meta-narrative game about infidelity, love and killer babies.

· Fallout 3/New Vegas, to satisfy that post-apocaliptic RPG need.

· Fable 2, quite possibly one of the greatest light-hearted RPGs out there.

· Dead Rising; even if you don't really enjoy slashing hordes of zombies, this game brings a lot of elements to make it fun, plus an interesting (really, interesting) story for a zombie-based game. It's also one of my favourite 360 games, and I really recommend this one.

· Geometry Wars 2. You might not be into indie/arcade based games, but this one is damn worth it for the fun alone.

· Shadow Complex, for that Metroidvania feel. There's no Metroid nor Castlevania here, but this will suffice, I hope. xD

· The Evil Within, for a nice throwback on japanese action horror. Another one of my favourite 360 games, although I could understand people not liking this one.

· Dark Souls. But if you don't like these kind of games, then go for Kingdoms of Amalur/Oblivion.

· Dragon's Dogma. One of Capcom's best games ever in history.

· Lost Odyssey. For that craving JRPG goodness.

· Nier. Father/daughter stories are always nice.

· Sleeping Dogs. Like GTA, but if you didn't like GTA, I think you could love this one. Just give it a chance.

I'll think of more later, but I think those are a good bunch for now. :P

You already have most of the games I was going to suggest. I have no idea what titles you might have played on other platforms, but here's what I can think
Orange Box
Batman Arkham titles (I haven't played origins, so I can't vouch for that one)
I really like Crackdown (the original over the sequel IMO)
Fable series
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Shadow Complex
Beyond Good and Evil HD
All of the Banjo games (even Nuts and Bolts)
Fallout 3 and/or New Vegas
Alan Wake American Nightmare
Braid
Borderland Series

Based on your feedback, and my ability to do so, I'll try to add more if I can think of any.

I was thinking of getting this, as it looks a lot like my all time favourite game, Resident Evil 4, but I was worried that, like a lot of other last gen ports of current gen games, it might be a bad conversion. How does it run?

If you're into JRPGs, I strongly second Wright's recommendation of Lost Odyssey.

Good to see someone with fine taste. :)

Fable 2

Shadow Complex

Mark of the Ninja

Bionic Commando Rearmed

Castle Crashers

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Borderlands

Dark Souls

Braid

Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead 2

Portal 2

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Far Cry 2

Dragon Age: Origins

F.E.A.R.

Darksiders

Usually I'd provide summaries for these games but I'm fading fast. Will have to come back tomorrow.

I'd say that I like The Evil Within more than Resident Evil 4, although that's probably because RE4 is probably one of my least favourite Resident Evil games; albeit still a great, harrowing experience. The game does show strong influences from the later, and there's even some bonus Mikami references thrown in for the lulz, including (small spoiler about one of the chapters, but don't read it if you don't want to get anything spoiled) one full mansion chapter reminiscent of the good older RE days.

In my honest opinion, aside from some really petty technical moments, the 360 version holds-up incredible well. There are some bad cases of framerrate dropping, pop-in textures that takes ages to load and generally longer loading times than other versions, but nothing that would drive you mad, and with a bit of enduring, nothing that would spoil your experience that much. Be advised, though, that the game does require a forced installation unlike 99% of the 360 games, so check that before getting it if you have a low space HDD.

Really, Curl, I'd say go for this one first. Considering you, I don't think you'll like it more than Resident Evil 4, but considering the huge lack of japanese action horror on the seventh gen, this tops almost everything produced so far.

Cheers man, next time I see it at a good price, I'll grab it.

I can deal with cut down graphics and the like, my only concern if it would run like shit and be cut down gameplay wise, like the last gen ports of Shadow of Mordor.
