Forums - Gaming - I don't get it how adults can like games with kiddy cartoony look

Question for OP, how old are you!?
Beacuse that mentality Nintendo games are for kids are typical for teens who only play "hardcore" games.

I am grownup but I always disliked kiddy games, but I did not own any console as a kid. I am not talkign about rated E games but about visually kiddy games that should only appeal to little kids in a normal world.

It's like if you had a decent car in some childish car body, it's still a childish car no matter how fast it can go and what functionalities it has.

Yes, but you still have a functional car, and it will work as well as any other car. And people can have the tastes they want, so variety is definitively not bad.

And comparing entertainment to a physical product that is generally considered an object of status is ridiculous, I wouldn't drive round in a plastic toy car, but I sure as hell will play Mario.

It really is a terrible analogy.

Yup. The new Ratchet is great. Wind Waker is great. Super Mario 3D World is great. This could go on and on. It's a shame you can't appreciate these awesome games. Unless this is a troll thread, in which case, touché.

Um...maybe you should try some of those games you mentioned because they are games anybody can play and it doesn't matter how old you are because they are fun. I'm 19 and happily playing the new Ratchet and Clank game :)

I have tried many of them on PS2. What is interesting that on PC you won't find game series like that and that speaks something of console and PC audiences.

Reading this thread has made me cringe in wonder.

I know that gameplay over visuals but for me all these Ratchet and Cland and Jak and Daxter and Nintendo games are cringe worthy. It's like if you had a decent car in some childish car body, it's still a childish car no matter how fast it can go and what functionalities it has.

I don't get how "adults" can care about looks like that

feels very weird and insecure  (i.e. childish) to me

Some people never grow up I guess.

Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Lego games, Hearthstone, Sonic the Hedgehog, League of Legends.

Anyway, the only time I've ever known people to say this was just out of insecurity, it's perplexing that colorfulness does not appeal to you. The only people I know to be like this in general are 10-16 year olds so maybe it is you who needs to grow up?

Some of us find 'cartoony' or stylized art design more appealing or just as appealing visually as realism.

I prefer a more vibrant and varied color palette to the muted colors of games that try to look realistic, and I find 'cartoony' character and environment designs to generally be more interesting and reflect more personality.

I also have a difficult time telling games that attempt realism apart. I can appreciate them from a technological and graphical standpoint, but they all blend together to me. I've never confused games like Rachet and Clank with games like Zelda. They're very distinct and stand out. It could be the reverse for some people, though.
