Forums - Nintendo - ZEN APU for NX reason for march launch?

I still kinda doubt that the NX will have Zen or Polaris.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I didn't want to post this thread but it seems most people overlooked this as a possible reason for Nintendo's march console launch.

And just for those who didn't know ZEN APU's are due next year.

I hope so.  I also hope the reason they chose to basically pass on E3 with the NX was because they didn't want to tip their hand to Microsoft or Sony and give them enough time to mimic some of the features of the NX before they release their console upgrades.  Would explain why they keep on saying they're being secretive because they don't want the competition to steal their ideas.

Yeah i think NX skipping E3 is a good idea but I wonder if they will tease any of the software.

Dont think it can be zen, as Zelda is shipping for both WiiU, and NX. Since Wii-U has a IBM's powerPC cpu, it must be compatible going forward, so NX is probably the same with a much beefier gpu.

Most 360/PS3 games (Power PC) also had a PC-Version (x86).

Many 360/PS3 games (Power PC) now have a Remastered version on XBO/PS4 (x86).

Why are people so determined to not take Nintendo at their word? They said the games wouldn't be ready earlier than that... why would they tell such a trivial lie to their investors?

They said it was *one* of the reasons, not the only reason. If Kimishima started talking about things like chip production problems then the press would go crazy with "Nintendo/AMD having chipset problems with NX!" all over the place and stockholders would start blaming them for choosing a certain chip design and blah, blah, blah ... better to just keep that pandora's box closed.

If it turns out the NX chip is 14nm (which we probably won't know until later this year or even next year), then there's a fair chance that was one of the reasons behind the delay because 14nm mass production of high end GPUs is still in its infancy.

I would add one thing to what Soundwave mentioned, is that if Nintendo don't have final dev kits yet (which likely as AMD is only set to start manufacturing Zen APU's in the second half of this year) then game code can't be tested properly.

I'd be surprised if Nintendo did since I think the last thing they want to do is remind their audience that they chose to essentially skip E3.  I'm kind of hoping they do a last minute tease for a launch game that isn't Zelda U/NX at the end of this year's direct (if they even have one) in a similar fashion to what they did in 2014 with StarFox.

Also, a decent part of the extra year of development was probably spent porting Zelda over to the NX.

Honestly, that I was I think will happen. Just at the end of their stream or whatever they choose to have I believe we will see something to get us hyped.

At least, that is what I am hoping.

Since I don't think the NX processor will be made on 14nm and Zen will only be made in that process, no, I don't think so.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Pretty much has to be this or another hardware issue, as readying launch software doesn't explain the E3 no show when they clearly wanted to bring NX there with the amount of showfloor space booked and how the only game playable is a NX one.

Yeah it would make sense to at least start building interest at e3 with some teasers of NX games

What you say would make sense of the yields on 14nm were bad but I have only heard that the yields are good, not great like 28nm but the less silicon you use the cheaper it will be in the long run.
