Forums - Nintendo - Alright... Lets get things straight with the NX...

Ever since the investors meeting this site has been flooded with Nintendo NX discussions suggesting reasons for the March 2017 release, theories as to what the NX is, and whatever else. So allow me to clear up everything people have been worried about.

-The NX is going to be a home console, as far as we know. So far some major games are confirmed to be in development (we only know one of them, being Zelda) and there is no way any of them could fit onto a handheld. And all we can confirm right now is that the NX is a home console with a tablet-like controller similar to the gamepad except probably smaller. Anything else has yet to be confirmed. We have no way of knowing it is a hybrid console and it is definitely not a streaming stick.

-The NX product is likely close to being finished. The reason for the 3-month delay was to make sure devs had enough time to finish their games for the launch day. In order to make sure the NX had a good number of launch titles they pushed the release date back. BUT this does mean something else. Nintendo wouldnt even originally schedule it for 2016 if they didnt have a working title, so in addition to the big games, there will likely be other smaller titles. (think Nintendo Land)

-There will likely be no backwards compatibility. This is a huge hardware upgrade for Nintendo and it would be unlikely for them to dedicate time towards backward scompatibility when only 13 million people own Wii U's and the NX is expected to sell at least double that in the first year. (not my words, dont shoot the messenger). But of course, it isnt unlikely for Virtual Console and ports to fill the void by bringing the most popular titles to the NX from past platforms.

-The Wii U is dead. Sorry, but lets be real for a second, Nintendo wants all of their best games ready for the NX and Nintendo does not move backwards. My prediction, which I can tell you has a 99% chance of being true, is that TMS#FE and Color Splash will be the last AAA games for the console. It had a good run, and I am definitely keeping mine even after getting the NX, but its time to wave goodbye.

After reading this its basically you restating things from other threads like the thread about the games making the NX delayed and the one about wii u being dead.
This was pointless of you to make tbh.

"and there is no way any of them could fit onto a handheld"

Lmao, have you been under a rock the past five years? Bioshock can run on a cellphone. There's hardly anything being made this generation that couldn't be retro-fitted to a handheld with absolute ease, especially with a 540p top screen. I think the first NX will be a console too, but let's not make shit up to support our arguments here.

Lmfao, based off what?

This. A handheld won't be as powerful as a home console, but the difference in power between mobile devices and regular hardwareis shrinking down fast. I'm sure that if Nintendo wanted, they could have a handheld with the power of a WiiU in 2018.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If it's close to being finished, I still wonder why they would not showcase it at E3..

Cartridges, technically it could be possible to do, on a handheld.

The first point is almost completely bollocks. We only know Zelda is coming. We suspect its a home console, but we don't know.

Why is there so much "news" about this thing? Do we know anything concrete at this point?

The only thing we know for sure about the NX is that it will receive a port of the Zelda Wii U and it will be delayed to have more software titles during its launch year according to Nintendo. Every other speculation we have or will see about the NX is exactly that - speculation. However some speculations make more sense than other and are more likely to be true. As a result, dismissing other speculation with another speculation can be tricky because some speculations are popular and accepted to be true because many people want them to be true. However, these speculations were only speculations in the first place and nothing more.

With that said, here are some popular speculations about the NX that is releasing on March 2017:

1. The NX will have a screen on its controller. Whether that's the default controller is not completely agreed upon yet.

2. The NX is most likely a home console or acts like one. Nintendo continuig to support the 3DS while the Wii U is forecasted with 800k sales until next March shows Nintendo's faith in supporting it. So we can guess it's replacing the Wii U and not the 3DS. The system can also run Zelda Wii U which is a home console game. We have no idea what kind of specs Nintendo wants in their next handheld so its safer to guess the NX is a home console.

3. The NX will connect to the next Nintendo handheld like they are "brothers." This is a paraphrasing of what Iwata said last February when describing how it will interact with the next Nintendo handheld. This is speculatiom because we don't know if things have changed, but since Iwata has said this, it is likely to be true.

4. The NX will absorbs Wii U's architecture. This is another statement Iwata made last February. He did not specify any further and we don't know what he exactly means. Did he means so as literal sense or a general sense? Again, we don't know if this will still happen.

5. There are many patents that were published after the reveal of the NX. But because not all patents become real products, speculation about the NX based on them is not entirely credible. However, there is a possibility some of these will be used. The question is which one. There were a lot of patents published so I won't list all of them. Just look them up yourself and see.

How do you know this?
