How long should this gen last?

2018 29 26.13%

2019 27 24.32%

2020 29 26.13%

2021 11 9.91%

2022 or longer. 15 13.51%

Total:111

2018. Consoles are changing. The big 3 have to understand this. Generations are coming to an end so I'd like it if they'd cut it off at 2018 and make way for upgradable consoles. I just think down the line, I don't want to be 40 years old with at PS10. It'd just seem drawn out having to toss perfectly good tech out every few years just to make way for a slightly better one.

There's been even talks about whether generations are even a useful concept anymore, and here's a question how long this gen should last. I don't personally think generations are even going to be useful from now on so it doesn't even make sense to talk about generations anymore, let alone how long they're going to last. If there's going to be another generation, it seems likely it's going to be just a formality and not an actual new generation. Right now I'd put my money on shorter cycles and backwards compatibility that blur the lines between so-called generations.

Exactly.

I'm missing an 2017 option, i think 4 years would be ideal. It used to be 5 years but that was with consoles releasing with state of the art hardware, so PS4 and Xbox One should be 4 years. Though with all the PS4N rumours i don't think it will happen, though Microsoft could still go for it.

Yeah I want a long generation.
2021 sounds alright for new consoles.
I want games not tech and hardware.

Yes. Only because gen 7 was rather amazing. Let's give this one a chance, it has potential.

I like long generations so 2020 is fine with me

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

If the console is not getting the support it needs (Like the Wii U and the PSV) I want it as short as possible.

And in Nintendo's case where most of their franchises only has 1 game per generation, I also want it to be as short as possible so I can play the next series!

As long as they refresh the hardware every few years it can go on as long as it wants.

What bothers me this generation is everyone is talking about hardware and graphics, but where are all the games at? We've been cheated this generation. We are already over half way through this generation.

I want the gen to last so I can play as much games as possible without having to invest in new hardware. I disagree with the idea of upgradeable console.
