Forums - Gaming - Getting an HDTV.

So I got a job offer this week, and I'm now shopping around for things to buy with that first... er, gotta pay all my bills first... second paycheck.  :)  So I'm thinking I will get an HDTV before too long.  I have a few requirements:

1) Must support full 1080p display.
2) Must support 120 Hz or 72 Hz display and 1080p24 input.
3) Must be between 45 inches and 55 inches in size.
4) Must support a "game mode" or have extremely low lag for a 480p input signal.
5) Must have at least 3 HDMI inputs, one Component input, one S-Video input, and one coaxial input.  1 DVI input can be substituted for one of the HDMI inputs (if not I'll just convert my media PC signal to HDMI).

I prefer LCD, but I would consider Plasma if the price is right.  I don't care if it has speakers, I'd actually prefer that it doesn't since I have my own 5.1 system.  It seems like Sony, Samsung, Sharp, and Mitsubishi all have TVs with these specs near the same price range.  What's good and what's not?

Sony Bravia is an excellent LCD TV.

I love my Sony Bravia. So much, I bought two.

Are you willing to waste $2000 buks for an HD TV? If not I dont think you would like the offers I have for you.

Do the Sony Bravia TVs have a game mode?  The only one I saw that specifically listed that was a Samsung.  I like the picture quality on both.

Leo, I'm willing to spend up to $3,000.  I don't consider it a waste for something I'll use frequently for a long time.

I hear nothing but good things about Sony's Bravia tv's.

By Game Mode, what do you mean exactly?

They do.
I use my Wii on my XBR4 and lag is noticeable in the wii menu if gamemode is turned off.
It feels a lot better with it turned on, as in SDTV lag better.

Edited the sentence structure for better clarity.

Excellent.  I think it's down to Sony vs. Samsung as far as my selection goes, because both get excellent reviews and I've seen excellent quality from both.

@loadedstatement: HDTVs usually have a bit of lag when they have to upscale a signal from 480i/p to 1080p.  It's usually noticeable for a 480p signal and really bad for a 480i signal (since extra processing is done on interlaced signals).  Game mode disables some of the extra filters and basically performs a straight interpolation scaling, which doesn't look as good but eliminates most of the lag.  It's pretty much required for any game where your reaction speed matters, which is almost all of them.

get a sony xbr4 or a samsung 71. those are the two best you can get lcd wise IMHO.
