On October 16, 2014, Nintendo Co., Ltd. filed in Japan via the JPO/INPUT a patent application titled "Training Implement, Training System, and Input Device". It saw an international filing on September 18, 2015, and publication yesterday, on April 22, 2016, via WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). For whatever reason, it appears to not be accessible via J-PlatPat, at least the documents can't be clicked. But the entry on WIPO is quite extensive so it'll do just as well.
This invention concerns some form of exercise controller/system incorporating sensors for load, acceleration, gyro and temperature, amongst other things, to be used for gaming/exercise. The inventors are:
- KURODA, Ryoji - Has more than ten patents with Nintendo, most related to Wii Remote
- YAMAMOTO, Shinji - Has more than five patents with Nintendo, most related to controllers. He's also done work for Panasonic.
- YAMADA, Yoshito - Unsure about connection to Nintendo, but he appears to have various patents in differing fields (tech mainly)
Only a small portion of the international publication is available in English, so I had to once again rely on machine translation. The J-PlatPat translation service, as used for the projector patent thread I couldn't use due to this application not being readily available for view there, but WIPO provides qualitative translation too, so I decided to go with that. Interesting parts are underlined. Let's start with the abstract:
