It would be nice if it could play UHD discs, and shouldn't cost much to do so. 4K UHD discs are simply triple layer BDXL discs with AACS 2.0 encryption. A 6x or 7x speed BDXL drive should be sufficient to get to 128 mbps. You can already get an 18 speed BDXL burner for 4 layer discs for $80. I doubt a DBXL read only drive would cost much more than the current 6x CAV drive in the ps4.
Streaming in 18 mbps (max from Netflix with HDR) or discs up to 128 mbps, easy choice for me. (Well and data caps beside the quality difference) The standalone players are so expensive because first generation devices, low expected sales, plus still needs pretty beefy hardware to decode a 128 mbps H.265 stream with Dolby Atmos etc.
Anyway, it seems unlikely. Not part of the rumors.
