Forums - Sony - PS4K the Hardware bargain of this Decade? 4K Blu Ray Player alone cost 400$

Whether people know what 4k is, they're buying them.

"4K TV shipments reach all-time high of 3 million units moved in April alone" 2015. --- globally

"To be put that in context. HD TVs only sold 11.3m throughout the whole of 2005 in the US." --- globally in the US

Around the Network

It would be nice if it could play UHD discs, and shouldn't cost much to do so. 4K UHD discs are simply triple layer BDXL discs with AACS 2.0 encryption. A 6x or 7x speed BDXL drive should be sufficient to get to 128 mbps. You can already get an 18 speed BDXL burner for 4 layer discs for $80. I doubt a DBXL read only drive would cost much more than the current 6x CAV drive in the ps4.

Streaming in 18 mbps (max from Netflix with HDR) or discs up to 128 mbps, easy choice for me. (Well and data caps beside the quality difference) The standalone players are so expensive because first generation devices, low expected sales, plus still needs pretty beefy hardware to decode a 128 mbps H.265 stream with Dolby Atmos etc.

Anyway, it seems unlikely. Not part of the rumors.

PS4X anyone?

They did it to the PS2
They did that to the PS3 sold the system in Home theater sections. Included while they were seeing the PS3 in the game console section. Also
Could Sony's PS4.5 Really be a Hometheatre version of their PS4?

I'm betting its a good chance.

Sony always did, with DVDs and Blu Rays. Didnt stopped their Players to be sold as well. People always want dedicated profassional devices, espacially since the PS4K or any gamign capable device which also can play 4K Blu Rays would be way too loud for a lot of people

Lets dont think ahead of our selfs, a lot of people and places in the first world arent ready at all for 4K streaming, i bet you are living in London thats why you think that way.

And  Movie ethnusiast will always who want to have a physical player or having a device capable of playing everything stream, digital and disc.

I dont live in London or anywhere near London.  I dont care about lots of places in the world and their internet speeds, not my concern.

Here we go with the past as a proof of the future again.  You do know Sony consumer electronics is on its arse dont you?  The example of DVD's partuclarly and Blu-rays to a smaller extent isnt relevant these days.

1. Then you dont care about Money as a company or stock holder

2. Sony consumer eletronics is rebounding. Physical media is still relevant espacially since people who buy mostly physical movies spend a lot more than people who are just subscribed to Netflix etc. And i said 4K support for everything including stream
