IGN, yes, their views are sometimes flawed too, but here's my reason.
THey do make an effort to give the game to reviewer who actually liked/played the genre before. So they have the experience and knowledge of games of that genre in order to make fair comparisons.
LO can not be compared to games like SMG, they can only be linked to FF series. Simple as that.

I would agree with the OP as well. As for the one I distrust the most, that'd have to be X-play(G4TV)... they seem to dislike almost all things JRPG with the exception of FFVI and XII
Generally IGN is more well balanced than most, but I disagree with several of their reviews.
I generally don't like to trust just one review, as even IGN doesn't always do a fair job. Typically I like metacritic, and read several of the reviews for a particular game instead of just trusting one reviewer.
Trust: IGN
Distrust: G4TV and Gamespot
I trust IGN, and a few others, but IGN the most. the one I distrust the most is Gamespot
well, it's not like I don't trust Gamespot, you just have to be observant when it comes to Gamespot reviews.
Is there a ad there? if there is, automatically take away 2 points from the actual game review.
if there an editor fired? If there is, the score should be accruate even if there is an ad.
is it a PS3 game? if it is, you need to add 1-2 points to the actual game score.
stuff like that. ;)

Trust: IGN
Hate: Gamespot (10 to Tony Hawk 3 FTL!)
IGN has a great Nintendo team, a select couple of the Sony team are babies and rank games too high, then Xbox team is spot on with most games except for hyped ones as they seem to get too excited and give it a higher score then it deserves (see Halo 3) Then PC seems pretty spot on though the PC editors seem slightly bland. Wiik in review is usually funny and talks about all gaming, I tired to listen to the other podcasts but they harp on their own systems and put down others too much, and one even acted like a baby over Penny Arcade talking about the reviews of Assassins Creed and thought they were talking about his review and they hadn't even read it (way to look like an ass). But overall the Wii team has my same opinions on games, I know when I wouldn't knock a game for something they harped on, and vice versa when I don't like something they liked but overall they're about 90% trustworthy.
