Splatatatoon 2020

I am torn by this. On one hand, I expect digital bc, because I bought many eshop titles. However, i strategically bought the small size stuff for the 32 gb hard drive, and bought the bigger retai titles on disc. If there was no game disc install, I wasn't buying an HDD for Wii U. So now we're hearing possibility of no BC as far as disc, but they'd have BC for most of the stuff on eshop. That means disc owners of smash, kart and splatoon are screwed.
I dunno mayne...if they do remasters (1080p/60, improved details, enhanced textures etc) with full content, I still would not expect a $59 price tag. NX remasters should be library filler and used to keep the online community active (smash, kart, splatoon), don't charge more than $39. The thought makes me cringe we need a fair upgrade program for current owners who do want to make the NX jump.

Just like how we can't know whether or not the resources from porting would be useful elsewhere, there's no way for me to truely know you aren't just saying you were sarcastic to cover face. Uh nope, you never explained how you somehow know that the port resources can't be useful at all anywhere else. |
We do know. I didn't pull those examples out of my ass. Do some research.
There's no way outside of basic common sense and reading comprehension.
I did. You just ignored it or said it was irrelevant.
Literally every time I see a port being rumored for NX from the Wii U, the less excited I get for NX. I fully think Nintendo will think it's fine to fill a release calendar with ports of games most Wii U owners already own... Still absolutely NOTHING makes me want to own this day 1 (I know, the actual launch titles have yet to be announced, as does the system).

"These decisions are made because the resources are not more useful elseware." This is something you can't know unless you're Nintendo, and this is obviously false since the resources can always be used to make other games or other games better as that's how they're made to begin with, with resources, and if the resource is purely money, better marketing aswell.
I didn't ignore it I clearly said it's irrelevant, because it is. When a game releases or when it's planned to release has nothing to do with port resources potentially being useful elsewhere, only why the ports are being made, which I never questioned.

haha you say that yet plenty of studios end up delaying games for YEARS, regardless of which individual studio. Look at things like the recent Final Fantasy game (albeit a big game). look at smaller studios with things like Mighty Number 9 some games do take quite a bit of development. And Nintendo is not the type to rush a sequel to meet a certain deadline. They're going to be careful with Splatoon since its done so well and make sure the next game in the series adds a lot of things and improves further anyone surprised that there are going to be plenty of ports hasn't been paying attention in the past, EVERY single console (regardless of manufacturer) ports games from the last gen. Its just a way to make the library available to consumers bigger, faster |
Yes, some games can see lengthy delays for a multitude of reasons. But we're not talking about the next FF, Fallout or GTA here... we're talking about Splatoon, a game that took less than two years from initial conception to final release (which by Nintendo's standards these days is miraculously fast), and Nintendo had a fully fleshed out playable demo of the game ready @ E3 2014, less than a year after the team began working on it. Assuming NX releases as early as this Nov/Dec, it'll be 18 months since the first game's release, which is more than enough time for Nintendo to have a sequel ready for launch or shortly thereafter since the gameplay template is already in place.
And I think you're confusing remastered ports of older last-gen titles with multiplatform / cross-gen "ports" of newer titles. Yes many titles released early in a console's life are "ports" per say, but they are usually the COD / Madden type ports where it's of a new installment in the series released across multiple platforms with slight upgrades / enhancements for the new hardware, as opposed to re-releases of older games in the series.
Go back and look at some of the 360 / PS3 launch titles for example... how many of them were older PS2 / Xbox titles that were being re-released on the new consoles? Not many, if at all. Nearly all games were either exclusive to the new console generation or new(er) multiplatform releases, and the only real "ports" per say were games released on the PS3 that had already been previously released on 360 like Elder Scrolls IV.
If a good chunk of the NX's launch library is ports / remasters of Wii U titles, then it's already in trouble. It's not supposed to be the Wii v3.0; it needs its own games and identity to stand out from both its competitors and its predecessor.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
