They don't have to be direct ports ... like I said with Smash I'd recommend strongly remaking the other Smash titles too or including content from them to have one huge central Smash experience. For Splatoon, they could easily add a lot of new content like new maps, new weapons, new play modes, maybe even a new single player campaign or a new local multiplayer mode. Zelda is a new game, so basically they can treat it as such. I think they should take advantage of the new hardware here and enhance the graphics at least (unlike Twilight Princess).
Mario Maker could add a lot of new content and features too.
I don't think just taking a bunch of Wii U games dumping them on the new console is the greatest idea though. They should put more effort into it.

No way your smash example is happening when they can easily package those separately for another $60 by itself.
While I'm sure there will be new content for the ports, the main benefit will be having them playable on both the NX and NXDS. It doesn't really matter how many features are added. That alone justifies the ports, as the BC games won't be playable on the NXDS due to incompatability with the screen resolution.

It's a tricky line to walk. I think Nintendo needs to understand one thing here though -- there's a good chance NX fails. And that has nothing to do with how good the system is. It's all about the bad situation Nintendo has put themselves into. No mid-gen released console has ever done well in this business and it's going to be very easy for Sony/MS to take aim at this thing and pound the shit out of it. The GameCube got demolished and the PS2 only had an 18 month headstart, this situation is far more difficult for Nintendo.
My opinion is they should do everything in their power to move these ports to adding as much value to them as possible.
If their attitude is going to be "well we're just going to fart out these ports and charge $50-$60 for them, enjoy our new generation" ... it's a poor message to send I think. But hey it's Nintendo, if that's what they think is smart, go right at it.
As much as they can push Smash/Splatoon ports to being more like 1.5-sequels than just "port dumps" I would say the better. Why not roll up your sleeves a little and add some real juicy content here to make these truly worthwhile, but if their attitude is one of "yeah we're just going to do the bare minimum" ... it doesn't bode well for them in general in the next few years. They need to be far more on top of the ball than that.
