Forums - Nintendo - Emily Rogers Rumour: There's a lot of Wii U ports coming to NX

F*ck Nintendo if this is true. I bought a Wii U to play exclusives and the few decent games that it got are ported to NX? F*ck you.

So fuck Sony because some PS3 exclusives are ported to PS4!? Sry but that doesnt make any sense, of course that Nintendo will port some very popular games from failed system that only small number people played to completely new platform, Nintendo also ported lotsa GC games to Wii.

Why waste a Mario game at launch when you can launch it later after the initial drought?

Not that it can't happen, but if the launch and post-launch game are good enough (Smash rumoured to be a launch title), you can always have a port or remake and leave a new proper Mario game for a later date to boost sales.

Sunshine would be more than welcomed!

Because Mario is by far the strongest Nintendo IP and it can keep people playing for months if wanted lol. Nintendo doesn't want to milk every single exclusive they made for Wii U, SM3DW did fine, there's no need to port it...

Yes, and after Wii U they need strong launch lineup for NX with new games, not launch with ports of old games.

Exactly. I think they tried doing this with releasing Zelda remasters and we see where that got them. Neither Wind Waker HD or TPHD are doing anything for the system.

PS3 has a lot of games that didn't get ported, Wii U only has a handful of exclusives and nothing else. And Nintendo only ported Metroid and some B-tier titles from Gamecube to Wii. It is inexcusable to screw Wii U owners just because the Wii U didn't sell. It's Nintendo's fault that they made a crappy console anyway.

Also people need to realise that ports/remasters are great like filler in release schedule between completely new games. So dont expect all those Wii U ports at launch, only game that is almost certain for launch is Zelda U, but when Zelda U will arrive it will basically be completely new game not port of old Wii U game like other possible ports.

I'm not a fan of remasters tbh at least not ones in this manner where the game was just released as I mentioned previously. I do understand some games like Smash, Mario Maker and Splatoon can lend themselves well to this and do make sense although those are borderline ok for me.

As I mentioned before if they remastered Melee that would be a nice title to bring however I wouldn't be too happy getting remasters as fillers between big titles I prefer a remaster as a once in a while type thing.

They don't have to be direct ports ... like I said with Smash I'd recommend strongly remaking the other Smash titles too or including content from them to have one huge central Smash experience.

For Splatoon, they could easily add a lot of new content like new maps, new weapons, new play modes, maybe even a new single player campaign or a new local multiplayer mode.

Zelda is a new game, so basically they can treat it as such. I think they should take advantage of the new hardware here and enhance the graphics at least (unlike Twilight Princess).

Mario Maker could add a lot of new content and features too.

I don't think just taking a bunch of Wii U games dumping them on the new console is the greatest idea though. They should put more effort into it.

No way your smash example is happening when they can easily package those separately for another $60 by itself.

While I'm sure there will be new content for the ports, the main benefit will be having them playable on both the NX and NXDS. It doesn't really matter how many features are added. That alone justifies the ports, as the BC games won't be playable on the NXDS due to incompatability with the screen resolution.

It's a tricky line to walk. I think Nintendo needs to understand one thing here though -- there's a good chance NX fails. And that has nothing to do with how good the system is. It's all about the bad situation Nintendo has put themselves into. No mid-gen released console has ever done well in this business and it's going to be very easy for Sony/MS to take aim at this thing and pound the shit out of it. The GameCube got demolished and the PS2 only had an 18 month headstart, this situation is far more difficult for Nintendo.

My opinion is they should do everything in their power to move these ports to adding as much value to them as possible.

If their attitude is going to be "well we're just going to fart out these ports and charge $50-$60 for them, enjoy our new generation" ... it's a poor message to send I think. But hey it's Nintendo, if that's what they think is smart, go right at it.

As much as they can push Smash/Splatoon ports to being more like 1.5-sequels than just "port dumps" I would say the better. Why not roll up your sleeves a little and add some real juicy content here to make these truly worthwhile, but if their attitude is one of "yeah we're just going to do the bare minimum" ... it doesn't bode well for them in general in the next few years. They need to be far more on top of the ball than that.

No, there's not a good chance the NX fails. That's not how consumer products work. A good product isn't going to fail just because it released in some imaginary timeslot relevant to only the people making consoles. If the NX is what I've been saying it is, and it likely will be, it's going to absolutely dominate gaming when it launches, matching the Wii/DS combined when they came out, but with legs that last. PS4K and XBO (and Vita, poor thing) won't stand a change against that. If the PS4 is Blackberry and the XBO is the sidekick, Nintendo's going to run train launching their first generation iPhone, and console gaming is never going to be the same.

I do think they'll add shit to all of them. They just don't need to. Most people have never played these games, and they're all effectively still new.

ya PS3 had alot of games not to get ported, so will Wii U, Nintendo isnt porting the entire or even close the entire library to NX so your point is moot.

also how are Wii U owners getting screwed? people keep saying this but nobody actually has a valid reason why NX getting some ports somehow affects Wii U owners.
