Forums - Nintendo - Factor5 just which IP should they be working on?

Alright fueled by speculation and rumours and the old projects that got cancelled we have three mainstream Nintendo IP's that have been related to Factor5. The most recent being Kid Icarus , then their was StarFox and lastly Pilot Wings! So out of those three IP's which one do you think Factor5 should be developing?

StarFox - Facto5 has shown its expertize in bringing us some of the best StarWars fighter games to date. The StarWars Rogue Squadron series was perhaps the best StarWars fighter franchise made. Factor5 made the graphic engine from the ground up to take advantage of the GameCube to the fullest. The results were RogueSquadron2 and 3.

Kid Icarus - Well to my knowledge Factor5 has never made a platformer before. So this would be entering new territory for them. Unless Factor5 putPit on rails and had him fly constantly which in my opinion would suck monkey balls. However with lair while the gameplay blew the visuals were amazing showing Factor5's ability to creae high end visual entertainment!

PilotWings -  Alright we all know it was pretty much confirmed for a time being that Factor5 was developing a Pilot Wings game for the GameCube. Given Facto5's history with fighter games it seemed like a logical fit though which direction would Factor5 take the series more cartoony like PilotWings64 or more realistic like its prediscessor on the SNES.

Alright theirs the candidates which franchise should Factor5 actually be working on and which franchises should be left to a different developer/studio?

None of the above. Factor 5 embarassed themselves trying to make an aerial shooter with motion controls and shouldn't be given any Nintendo fanchises. I'm not completely sure why everyone in the Nintendo forums is so excited about them. Rogue Squadron II was a long time ago. Their last game was Lair, which is probably the best representation of their talent level in game development and especially motion controls. They should create an original IP not published by Nintendo, so if it stinks the place up, fans won't blame Nintendo for it. If anything, let them develop Mario Hang Gliding.

In order from worst scenario to best, if Factor 5 has to develop one of the three franchises

1. Kid Icarus=Please god no!

2. Star Fox=Almost as bad but just slightly better because there's more aerial involved.

3. Pilotwings=This wouldn't be so bad since I couldn't give a crap about the game no matter who's making it.

Well here's the info we got from Factor 5, they were originally working on the Pilot Wings game before the Wii launch but needed something to come out quick so there's where Lair came from. In an interview F5 was asked if their relations were hurt by making Lair for PS3 and to this I say HAVE YOU PLAYED LAIR! F5 acted as a ninja in the night to kill some of the hype around the PS3 by having Lair be so bad, that question was brought up to make sure they would still be able to work on 1st party IPs.

Alright in the same interview they didn't fully deny that they were making Pilot Wings but it doesn't seem likely, as they mention they made a totally new engine that did what their PS3 engine did and then some, Pilot wings wouldn't need more then a complex flight engine, so I'm thinking more action.

PILOT WINGS ELIMINATED!

Then you get the mention of flight, while flight is a big thing in Kid Icarus I personally wouldn't see a 3D adaption using a very complex flight system, then you have the mention that their favorite part is the IR functionality, while that could easily be the bow reticule, if you think about it, that would be nothing but Zelda TP all over again just now you have wings and less items. So this is my opinion but...

Kid Icarus Eliminated!

Winnar Star Fox, it seems their style, it just fits what would be great with the IR pointer, they could do on foot missions right cause I personally believe that's the only place Fox can go, but they did say a lot about flight so have a Star Fox game thats 90% flight and 10% on foot and they could do that well, they said it's going to be pushing the system to its limits, and that people will be surprised with what they're going to do, a futuristic setting would seem the best setting to give stunning visuals, clouds and angels don't seem to fit that bill, all in all I think the clues lead towards Star Fox, and I would love for them to resurrect what Star Fox used to have in the SNES and 64 days.

They're making a new, revamped Lair, and this time it'll be awesome.

They mentioned hints that seem to indicate that they were apparently retooling the Lair engine because the new engine "was able to do things we didn't or couldn't do on the PS3 [in Lair]."

If the release date for their game is "sometime 2008," I'd be willing to be that is just a retooled Lair. If it's a new game, it'd have to be coming in an roughly the 2nd quarter of 2009 at the soonest.

That, or it's a new Turrican game...

I am sure if Nintendo trusted them with one of their franchises then they would be breathing down their necks to assure quality(kinda what they did with retro and metriod prime)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Exactly Nintendo wouldn't just give Factor5 a free pass to do as they wish they would observe Factor5's development proccess first hand and make changes as required. The idea that their next game is simply a retooled Lair. That is possible but could such an experiance truly be mimicked on the Nintendo Wii?

Well according to Surfer Girl F5 is working on Turrican. It's not much info, but it's the best we have for now.
