Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Nintendo has ceased production of DS cartridges worldwide

According to a tweet from Canadian retailer Video Games Plus, Nintendo has ceased production of DS cartridges. The retailer does promise its own set of exclusive restocks for the near future, however. Video Games Plus sent out the following message a little while ago:

"Bad News: Nintendo has discontinued production of DS carts worldwide Good News: VGP has a bunch of EXCLUSIVE DS GAME restocks coming in soon"

Nintendo has not officially confirmed that it has stopped production of DS carts worldwide. But given the fact that Video Games Plus is a retailer, they could very well have this sort of information as its disposal.

Well it's 2016.
Are we suppose to be surprised or something?

They have lasted a logn time. I've gotta hurry and complete my DS collection.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm surprised they were still making them.

Not much of a surprise. However, some of Nintendo's 1st party games were selling in the hundreds of thousands of copies well after the DS generation ended. They probably came to a halt and Nintendo's moving on. Now they gotta make them NX handheld cartridges. :)

Not sure about the source, but considering how the DS is over a decade old now, I'm surprised that Nintendo is still producing DS carts.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

That's ok, if anything I'm surprised they were still making them considering how old the DS is.

They were still making DS cartridges? Incredible!

I am really surprised that DS carts were still being made. Nintendo also announced last week that they will be shutting down the DSi Shop in 2017 so it looks like it might finally be the end of official support for the DS. Not bad at all considering that the 3DS is almost at the end of its life now.

I'm very surprised
