Forums - Microsoft - MS cracks down on Gamerscore cheaters

Um... those promo cars in Burnout Paradise can be unlock by anyone, but you have to earn the license to use them.  So if you used "savegame" to get the license then get to use those cars against people on-line .. hmm...wouldn't that be cheating?

You said so yourself that it is unfair that you get smoke by kid that have those promo cars so why would it be fair to other if you used "savegame" to unlock the car.

And by the way if you really "play" Burnout Paradise you will know that those Promo Cars, aside from the fact that anyone can unlock them they are not a big advantage over other cars in the game.

Fooflexible, I totally see where you are coming from. I absolutely hate the idea of the gamerscore. I've gotten stuck in 2 games on the PS3, and I downloaded a savegame just to save myself from a headache. Enjoyed the rest of the games after skipping past the level I was stuck on. I would hate to be branded a cheater online for those actions, especially if I were paying for XBox Live (which is one reason I sold my XBox360, got tired of paying for every little thing).

Thank you! Finally someone. Well the bottom line is despite whats being said here, there is nothing wrong with us for buying a game, playing without cheating online and occassionaly using a gamesave to bypass stuff. And what I mean is we are not hurting anyone elses experience and Microsoft should be grateful for our business, but since they are not I will most definitly take my business elsewhere.

Another thing people are forgeting, is because of Microsoft attiutude toward polcing the gaming public we are missing out on cool features, like mods, and an internet browser.

what I dont get is what game are you stuck on you need to load a friends save file to get through a level go to gamefaq! or have your friend beat the level =! next if you transfer your gamertag to another console you have to download it off of live where as a paying member with a gamertag all your stats and achievements are kept to! yet you feel like a online community you signed up for is spying on you???? cancel live and disconnect your gscore wont matter and you can feel better that the rest of us wont see chaeter near your name! I honestly think you dont own a 360 and this is a ms trash thing but I have been wrong before!

Because this deserves to be on the second page as well. =P

You really think Microsoft could find more entertaining ways to waste time and money then going after "Gamerscore" cheaters. Especially considering what a croc Gamerscores are with games like King Kong, Avatar, and CSI where you can get a 1000 points in a rental, and where as Bewjeweled 2 has a single 10 point achievement that takes on average 250 hours of playtime to unlock.

But there a big company, so I guess they've got time and money to spare. =P

thats a funny cartoon!

Umm according to Major Nelson they're only going after the most serious offenders. I really doubt that includes someone who used a downloade game save for one game or for even two or three games. It sounds more like people that have cheated in a lot of games for the obvious purpose of inflating their gamerscore and have an outrageous gamerscore as a result.

The cheaters they're likely looking for are ones that cheated and have gamerscores like these people:

(Note: I'm not accusing them of cheating, I'm just saying that if people with gamerscores like this are found cheating it's likely that they did it on purpose).

First off,it doesn't work that way I'm not hacking live accounts and stealing gamertags, neither is anyone else. People are disconnecting their 360 harddrive hooking it up to their pcs, going to a site that people voluntarily upload their own game saves to and copying them to their 360 hdd.  Then playing it.

As far as what game, it was Burnout : Revenge(btw i mentioned this several times) i hate racing games but love Burnout 's crash mode, I mostly play it with friends. I was surprised to see revenge wasn't like burnout 3 you couldn't play the crash part of the game separately you had to beat races to unlock crash boards too. So I beat a bunch and when I had a tough time I stopped playing it. Upon hearing I could use another game save to unlock the rest I did it, then enjoying the rest of the crash boards in party mode with friends. I don't think there is anything in that that's wrong. Like the other guy who only plays guitar hero with friends and used a gamesave to unlock all the songs. Or what about  let s say mass effect. Now I beat mass effect, and loved it it's like my favorite game. but I had to choose an  ending, and I really didn't feel like playing through the last couple of hours all over again, at least not until the dlc came out. So if someone who already beat the game downloaded a game save to check out different endings, that wouldn't bother me, I didn't do that, because I just watched the other endings on youtube. I've downloaded game saves in the past, and cheats (using gameshark and the like) for older systems, this really isn't about gamerscores for me, and alot of the time it's not even about beating the game, most games I get stuck on I actually sell back to the store unbeaten, I usually get so pissed at the game I don't even feel like going through the trouble.

And again I'm not a liar, I do own a 360, last night I was playing the beta to battlefield and it was amazing. I honestly love my 360, it's my favorite console of the three(I have all of them) and it gets played the most. Mostly I'm annoyed at getting ganged up on for my opinions, on a forum, and being called a liar. and as for the person who said they didn't mind scientists coming up with a list of christians, are you serious? You wouldn't mind people whether true or not whether you don't mind people knowing or not deciding to put your name on a list like you should be considered an outcast for your beliefs?

Like I said I doubt I'll be affected by this, I just thought a shame list of your customers was going to far, but if their doing it to gross offenders then fine. but I really think there should be a away to use gamersaves that don't affect gamerscores, or bring back cheats, even if they prevented you from using it until after you beat the game. Some of the most fun I've had is playing a sim game with infinite money, or playing a shooter I've already beaten with god mode, or invisibility on. My brother beat goldeneye, then after would do all these crazy things with the cheats it was hilarious.

lol,

-"My internet penis is the biggest! Look at my Gamerscore!"
-"Actually, it's just been reset for cheating..."
-"Oh crap, my internet penis, it's gone!"

You dumbfound me sir. You cheated on a game over a year ago, and can no longer play that game. You say your gaming score does not matter to you. Yet in the last year you have not decided to delete your save file or the attached achievements from your system. Knowing full well you were not awarded them fairly. Nor have you even bothered to check your system to see if Microsoft even bothered with your as you put it minor infraction of the rules of good sportsmanship.

Just a side note here.  Achievements don't work that way.  The Achievement is saved whether you have the game save still or not.  You don't loose Achievements when deleting game saves.  The Achievement is saved to your profile.  Nor can you manually delete Achievements.

foo, if you want to cheat, go ahead and cheat. Put peanut butter on the disk and fling it out the window. Whatever. It's your $60. Just accept the fact that Microsoft wont give you the credit that somebody, who worked through the same problem you bypassed, is getting. You won't get credit for beating level 4 because you skipped it. Cool. Gamerscore means nothing. If it means THAT much to you, make a separate "cheater profile". Cheat all you want. Use your "legit profile" when you go online. Be happy.

The End

You apperantly aren't reading my posts, I don't even like the achievments and will be gald when they are wiped out. My point is a company should not embarrase it's customers with a list that exposes them as a cheater, when 1. they can't cheat online. and 2. offline cheating has nothing to do with the rest of the world. I'm fine if they came up with a way of stopping me from taking credit from other saves, in fact when i used someone elses save I didn't even know that would work and was shocked it did.

I just think the list is misleading, it'll make other gamers think you've been caught cheating online. and that you shouldn't be trust in matches.

I am all for MS trying to discourage cheating and to crack down on it.  But I do think creating a list of names and putting cheater in the Gamer Tag is too much.  I think zeroing out the Gamer Score is a great idea, and the 'cheater' not being able to regain the points for past Achievements.  That I like.  But I think they should nix the list and cheater title, but add a reduction in the max the 'cheaters' reputation can obtain.  For instance, make it so that the most stars they can ever get in Rep is 4, rather than 5.
