People can be so gullible with those click bait articles and rumors from certain forums.

tbh, I'd be surprised if it wasn't real.
The whole point is to be able to support the psVR with a stronger platform. 4K is along for the ride, but mainly, this is for VR.

Plus, things like this always turn up true with Sony. Rumors always leak a couple months before e3. Same thing happened with the ps3 slim.

Nobody knows for sure but those rumors started for a reason, only thing left to do is wait and see.

Im in the same boat as you, i think this is mainly for PSVR as it will really benefit from the extra power provided.

Double the power (4k upscale not native). Current power is too low for a cool VR and 4k 60FPS would be a machine out of everyone's budget.

Those are Bluray players that play standard 1080p Bluray discs and upscale them to 4K.  True 4K UHD Bluray players are just starting to be released.  The Samsung UBD-K8500 is $400, while Panasonic is expected to release an $800 model soon.

There is but it is not dramatic. It’s much less than say a dvd(480i) upscaled to 1080p.

 And there are no 4k Blu-ray players out yet,  unless you spend like $30,000.00USD.  (last I checked)

 Every 4kTV can upsale,so that would be pointless to make a’4k upscaling’ feature on a new PS4.5.

There is no doubt that this thing is real. Sony and Microsoft both set themselves up to do this when they planned these consoles. The move to X86 and the standard GPU was a dead give away, and both companies have mentioned the possibility to make these upgrades since the tech was announced.

To everyone loosing their head over this, sit down and take a deep breath. This new PS4 is not going to ruin the console industry. If you have a PS4 right now, you are still going to get the best 1080p gaming experience that you were promised. If you where excited about VR, you will still get full support of all PSVR games released on the PS4 platform.

The only thing the PS4K is going to do is give people with 4K TV's an option to enhance the experience on their new device. It is going to build in the components of the PSVR box into the device for a cleaner set-up, and add a minor graphical enhancement to the titles.

Both consoles will offer high quality experiences, and support will be excellent for each platform under the PS4 family of devices.

For those concerned about development. This is actually going to be less work for developers as they will drop support for 360 and PS3 once the PS4 & XBO Spec 2 devices hit the market. Developing for PS4/PS4K/XBO/XBOK/PC will be much less demanding than developing for the 360/PS3 due to all of the new systems being nearly identical. There is also the fact that both Microsoft and Sony developed High and Low level API's for these platforms. Many games are not built down to the metal and run on the higher level API which was built specifically for complete compatability with the scalable platform. Even the low level API's were built with the scalability of the platform in mind, and assured all titles could easily be patched to work with future hardware revisions.

This has been the plan from the earliest R&D on both PS4 and XBO. Both companies have set things in order to take care of day one owners, and continue to evolve the platform to reach broader markets. This is a major improvement for the console industry, and one that is going to greatly enhance the home computing experience going forward. This is a win for consumers, developers, publishers, and the hardware manufactures, and a decade from now, everyone will be praising this evolution in home electronics.
