Forums - PC Discussion - Phil Spencer: Halo 5 Won't Come To PC, But Future Titles Could

Rumors that Halo 5: Guardians would be coming to PC have gone on-again and off-again since the game was announced. Last October, Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg had to clarify a statement from an interview with 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor. However, just this month, Aaron himself suggested that a port would now be possible.

Now, however, Xbox head Phil Spencer himself has gone on record that it would not be happening, in spite of Microsoft’s newly unveiled plans with UWPs and the Windows 10 App Store. As he put it, it goes down to ‘suitability.’

Phil explains not all of Microsoft’s Xbox One games will also be going to PC and vice versa. Microsoft decides if a game is suitable for one or both platforms and publishes as they see fit. Case in point, Ashes of Singularity is unlikely to hit PC because Microsoft does not think it is suitable for PC. We of course already know they think Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza, and Gears of War are suitable for both platforms.

In the case of Halo 5: Guardians, Phil states that it was built from the ground up for consoles. In contrast, Halo Wars 2 was planned and made for both platforms from the start. Phil ends by stating he can see a future for Halo FPSes on both Xbox One and Windows 10, but he does not want to be looking back to earlier games to do so.

Good. Halo should stay on xbox and xbox only.

If anything, I would love if Halo Online was brought to the west.

if the xbox one sold better they might have found way less titles "suitable" for pc lol. if nintendo and sony released their games like this console gaming would not excist anymore.

I am not so sure the next xbox will be a big success if they release all/most their games on pc. On the other hand pc hardware sales might go up and gaming on a pc is ofcource also a great experience.

What?

Right, it was completely because Microsoft thought it was suitable for both platforms.  They must have also thought it was suitable for PS4, right?

Not until PS4 gets a Windows Store.

But I read in another thread Xbone will soon have no "real exclusives" :(

Microsoft wants all their stars back on PC again. Not that surprising. And I think Halo 5 will come to PC, even if it's not something we'll see this gen.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

‘Suitability'? Seriously? What does that even mean? These marketing words are so much fun.

Anyway, I'm putting Halo 5 coming to PC down as a "maybe".

What? Ashes of Singularity already is on PC. And Halo 5 is definitely suitable for PC. It may not suit MS's plans to release it on PC, but saying a first-person shooter isn't suitable for PC is ridiculous in almost any case. Typical PR nonsense, I'd say.

Spencer declined to state that "all" Microsoft published games will hit both platforms. Instead, games will release for Xbox or Windows 10 depending on their suitability for either platform. Using RTS Ashes of the Singularity as an example, Spencer implied that it's not a great fit for console, even though Xbox One will get mouse and keyboard support down the line.

This other article words it differently.

Ah, that makes much more sense. Like I suspected, the writer of the article in the OP was either ignorant or made a mistake.
