No :)
Judging PSVR is pre orders there is a market for it. Although I highly doubt that is the market Nintendo should be targeting. PSVR is probably going to be a succes especially if they support midware pc's as well due to the fact it is from Sony instead of an unknown hardware maker. Nintendo on the other hand shouldn't do VR purely because Sony does, they need to launch a PS4 like NX for $250- with strong third and first party support to become relevant as primary console again so that NX2 can compete against Xone and Sony. This way they provide games for young and old, while PS and MS are targeting mostly adults. They might not do as well as PS, but 50 million would be plausible and I consider anything above 50 million not a failure.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Try reading the first post rather than just the title...
No, they don't.
They need these two things:
Low price
(Many) Good games
You pretend like the three strategies outlined in the op are the only ones Nintendo can pick, despite how your product management "expertise" should make it obvious that that is simply not the case.

No because VR is going to be meh just like 3D gaming.
No they have to make a relevant console and controller (something they haven't done since gamecube(which also came out too late t, and they need basic last gen features like achievements/trophies, and make new franchises, Splatoon is a great start, but maybe the old guard of Nintendo need to make way.

Yep. Suddenly motion controls are not a gimmick and they are popular and cool :P |
That's just not true - they use a similar underlying technology, but the motion controls for those VR headsets are in no way based on the Wii Remote design.
If two things have wifi inbuilt, is one based on the other?

No need to be condescending.
If they have a low price, if people are already happy with the PS4/Xbox lineup, why would they get another console? And stating a console has to have good games is stating the obvious, so how/what are these good games going to be? Are they going to be first or third party? Are they going to rely on any Nintendo franchise? Are they going to be technically advanced, current gen or retro? Your solution just opens up a whole lot of questions.

Currently almost all the reviews of the Oculus are saying otherwise.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the people here posted after just reading the title and didn't even reach that question...
| LipeJJ said: No, they are really nothing to go by. These days almost every gadget does well on preorders. I mean, even the Wii U had great pre-oders and had a strong start (first 2 months). Plus, companies love to PR/brag about pre-oders, it's hard to actually know when they're lying or telling the truth. Sometimes they just let the stores just order a few units in order to make it "outsell" quickly and create hype/buzz. So yeah, we should wait and see first. Regarding the question: No, at the moment I'd say no gaming company needs VR to stay revelant. |
Is that gadget comment really true though? You don't hear buzz about preorders about things like Fitbit, but tend to hear about big preorders about products that go on to sell well e.g. iWatch. Also, you you can't actually lie about pre-orders because that would count as fraud.
Also, any thoughts on what the NX should do?

No, I don't mean the proper technology or the WiiMote design, I'm talking about "motion controls" per se. I'm not saying that it's a rip-off or something like that, but motion controls were despised by some gamers because of them being a gimmick, and even if it's not the same tech, the use is pretty similar. And I really know some people who know think they're cool, the same people who said motion controls are shit when the Wii released, and I find that kind of hypocritical.
