Forums - Sony - PS4.5 / PS4k might not be new hardware

Bad idea.
If I play an offline game I don't want to worry about my Internet connection to have the best quality.

Sony have been very keen on making sure people know there's nothing in the splitter box for the PSVR. Perhaps it actually holds more than that.

The PS5 Exists.

There is no reason sony needs to release a a PS4.5 . It is selling more than any other console in the history and no one can stop that. It is superior (graphically) compared to the Xbox One and even the PS VR will sell very well (Depending on the news of the last few weeks).

I think they are planing a new modell  only(Slim ?)

A cloud support (A software that streams your games) is a kill for the games. Imagine the case where two players are playing an online FPS (say battlefield). The one playing the game running on the console will have a lower latency than the one on the cloud.

i agree, I don't want a PS4.5, I think the whole idea is really bad.  I'm just addressing the idea of releasing new hardware with a different idea.

As for streaming players playing online VS hardware players.  I've played Street Fighter 4 via PS Now quite a bit, and it makes no difference.  In fact if anything, it's the oppisit to what you say.  Because the player in the cloud is already on Sonys lightning fast Online server, they have a better server connection than the hardware player.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

Yeah, and do  you think it is that easy to run every game on there servers? U need millions of machines to do this! Sony can't afford this.
They don't even have the infrastructure ready. And if they want to implement such a software, they are going to ask Microsoft of Amazon for help. what makes it more expensive.

There's absolutely no chance the idea of 'cloud' computing improving the console capabilities is what they refer. We've been through this with the Xbox 1 since it was announced.

You totally have missed what I said by a mile.

The way PS Now works is by having certain hardware at Sonys end that does the actual work.  In the current case, they have PS3 hardware running games, that is then streamed to your PS4.  This is how you are able to play PS3 games on your PS4.  The PS4 does almost no work and acts pretty much as solely as a reciver.

In this case, the hardware wouldn't be a PS3, but the supposed PS4.5.

If you thought PS Now was cloud computing like what Xbox was talking about, how did you think it worked on Braiva TV's?

I didn't miss at all what you said, I started by assuming the rumors are credible, and as such the most likely way I see them do this thing work.

You mentioning PS Now has absolutely no bearing on this rumor whatsoever, they might as well have quantum computers on their servers, it makes no difference at all to the entire topic.

What do you think happens the moment changes the hardware on the PS Now servers? Are games going to be made exclusive for PS Now? Do you have any idea what's the current paying userbase on PS Now?

I would love to understand what's the reasoning behind your assumption and what are the possible advantages/disadvantages of it.

Then compare that to the full reasoning I made for this possible 'premium' model and ponder how likely either seems

The servers are better. But still there is latency to deal with.

If you are playing a streamed game, hitting the controller will send a signal to the console which sends a signal in the network to the the PSN servers.

If you are playing on your machine the signal will be sent to your console and DONE.

It's just à PS4 Slim, all this fud for nothing

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

No the topic as stated in the title of the thread is, what if the rumoured ps4.5 was not new user hardware but PS Now hardware.

the whole idea of the thread is the explore the idea of improved games being streamed and not physical.  It's easily possible, and all the PS4k rumour says is that Sony are working on new hardware.  People have just assumed that it'll be a new box to buy, but this is 2016 when games can be streamed to TV's, vitas, PS3 and ps4.  The home box makes no difference, I'm saying what if PS4k is a streamed service and the hardware only exists at Sonys end.

ok, so that would be suicide, thank goodness it's just fantasy then :)

Again, I've explained my reasons why I think disc games including a PS Now enchanced version is better for the industry than a new piece of hardware.  You have not.  I think the whole PS4.5 idea is bad, but as a streamed bonus it does no damaged.  Any other method is dangerous.
