Given that each generation lasts about 6-8 years, I assume most people who complain about a new generation, are probably a bit younger than me. I can assure you, it almost ALWAYS takes 2+ years to get a decent catalog of games going.
People said the exact same thing about 7th gen. |
I would argue that aside from Generation 7, each generation has lasted 5-6 years before a successor is released.
@OP. This generation won't be remembered as the worst, but it definitely won't be remembered as the best. It has good things going for it, but it certainly has issues plaguing it. Most of the games with a lot of hype surrounding them have been lacklustre, funnily enough they seem to mostly be Ubisoft games in this regard i.e. Watch_Dogs, The Division, Assassin's Creed: Unity etc.
EA has been just as shitty as they were during Generation 7. Their handling of Star Wars Battlefront has been atrocious. I really wish another developer/publisher could handle Star Wars titles. It sucks that EA has the sole rights to develop Star Wars games.
Despite PS4's lead, it has been disappointing in regards to high profile exclusives. We know that Final Fantasy VII remake is exclusive, however, this has been confirmed to be a limited time exclusive deal, just like Rise of the Tomb Raider is for Microsoft platforms.
Many of the high profile games that will show this generation's leap over Generation 7 are yet to be released (outside of Nintendo). Titles like Uncharted 4, Horizon, and Final Fantasy XV have yet to release.
...and then you have Nintendo's lacklustre sales with the Wii U and Sony's with the PS Vita. Both fully capable platforms with a solid lineup. However, they both did not succeed with the mainstream audience.
This generation has not been the worst; in the grand scheme of things it certainly won't be the best either.
