We may or may not run an article or two on pre-order data for PlayStation VR, but in the meantime I thought I'd create a thread where I'd post updates on the data we're receiving, since I figure it'll be of interest to some of you.

First some disclaimers and methodology (which will explain why we're not yet sure we want to run any articles on this and why this is 'unofficial'):

- These are very rough estimates that use a very basic methodology, and should be viewed with that in mind.
- The figures come from raw data we've been receiving from retailers in each of the countries listed below. That data is solid. So far so good.
- The problem is the process for turning that raw data into a hard estimate across the country involves a much more simplistic methodology than we use for our actual charts and basically amounts to extrapolating the raw data based on the average market share each retailer has in the relevant country and then arriving at an average.
- What's wrong with that? Well, a lot. For example, market share varies from product to product and from genre to genre and from hardware to software. In short, PSVR may be more or less popular with the retailers we get data from than the average market share would indicate and that would mean our estimates end up well off target.
- There are numerous other problems with pre-order data in general as well, from the fact that cancellations (from the customer or the retailer) don't get reported to us to the fact that retailers will sometimes over-estimate their allocations (intentionally or otherwise) and won't be able to honour pre-orders.

So, having covered my ass and made it explicitly clear that these figures are to be used as a rough guide only, here are the countries we have totals for so far:
