Forums - Sony - What is so bad about keeping all your games and peripherals, just to upgrade the box (PS4 to PS4.5)?

Only way I see them spending more time in development then they alraedy do is if they decided to go for things that can run on 4.5 and not on 4 (like SVOGI), which would call for additional time.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. They won't spend any additional time developing for the additional hardware because there's literally no point. It's added expense with no expected additional income. The only way you'll see improvements is in load times and frame rates because they can just increase those memory allocations and be done with it.

It moves closer to being a PC. I like not having to think with consoles.

- Will devs take advantage of the extra power to boost things besides resolution/frame rate? Will the next AC have more NPCs on the PS4.5 version?
- Will my game look as good as the advertisements even if my game can't run at those specs?

I love not having to worry about those things. If I'm going to have PC 'worries' might as well play on PC where the online is free and the library moves with me

If the 4.5 rumor is true, and it means upgraded GAMING performance. I don't see it as a big deal.. The 40 million with the current PS4 will still be able to play old and new games.. while the people with PS4.5 will get patches to upgrade the visuals. This isn't hard, as most games are DOWNGRADED before release.. This really isn't a big deal at all.. and I don't get why any SINGLE person would be against this, besides just having something to complain about. This would likely benefit the PS VR also..

Most games are optimized before release, not downgrades. Often times these optimizations do involve some downgrading, but it still remains that even a game developed for the PS4.5 would have to be optimized before release, so it's not like they can just make the PS4.5 version and just downgrade it to the PS4 version. It doesn't work like that.

Um..  Yes. It does.  PC games can run at HIGHER resoltions on more capabale PC's and lower on those that cant.. Its been happening decades my friend. This would be NO different. Its not about just DOWNGRADING.. Its about having the better assets available for the PS4.5 and not on the PS4..

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:

PS4: 85-95m
X1: 55-65m
WiiU: 20-30m

The problem is people who can't restrain themselves from always wanting the newest thing. A new PS4 version has zero effect on what they currently own but they suddenly start to feel inferior just because there is a better product out there now.

Basically it's a problem they have with themselves and there is nothing wrong with new products giving people a choice. But we know gamers, they hate choice.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm all for it.

As long as Sony doesn't drop support for the PS4 (which they won't), that they do everything they can to ensure the experience is unified across systems (they'd have to), and that when I DO decide that I want to upgrade to the newer system, that my library remains intact (which it will).

While I don't see a developer releasing PS4.5 exclusive games, even IF they did, and it's a big IF, it would only be a very small percentage of games and that won't affect your experience one bit. If it does then I think you need to either pony up the cash to upgrade or take a long serious look at your emotional priorities.

Those who just don't like the idea because it means they don't have the latest and greatest are just being juvenile IMHO.

You're acting as if I don't make console video games for a living. I know exactly how it works. I have personally done the work myself. For example I worked on porting a PS3 game to the PSVita, and much of the work was about optimizing the game to run on much less capable hardware, and reducing the complexity of practically everything, from AI to audio to 3D models to animation to make the game run.

I totally get the process. PC games are made differently. Their engines are different, games are optimized differently. It's like oranges and grapefruits. They look pretty similar on the outside, but once you get inside you're looking at a familiar but also very different experience.

If the games are still playable on my old PS4, then I don't care. Just don't be a dick like Nintendo with the N3DS.

As long as they don't leave the current PS4 owners left out there shouldn't be any harm. Unlike Nintendo with their 3DS.

How have Nintendo left 3DS owners out with the New 3DS? It has what like 2 exclusive games?

Granted the exclusive games aren't alot, but one is Xenoblade!  It was bad enough that the Wii version was limited in stock/expensive 2nd hand, but then to make it exclusive to the New 3DS is ridiculous and a major slap in the face to the earlier 3DS owners.  I've actually seen a kid make fun of another kid because his 3DS can play Xenoblade and the other kid's 3DS couldn't.  Doesn't that just sound stupid?

Bad enough people can be discourage to play PC games because they're afraid their rig cant handle it.  But this should never be the case for home/handheld consoles.

But like I said, as long as all PS4 models can play all PS4 games i'm fine with that.  I'll be upset if Sony like makes TLoU2 exclusive to the PS4K.

I don't really care, but I'm definitely not getting a regular PS4 now

I would assume all games would be common until about 2019 or 2010.... eventually they will have to leave the original behind though. But they could draw a line in the sand and say " original PS4 will run everything until June 2019" for instance.
