Forums - Nintendo - Images of the NX Controller Surfaces!

Another sad thing - if this thing is fake, the NX controller will probably be how I envisioned it, which frankly just doesn't look as nice as this. I mean functionally it looks like garbage, but design wise, this is a win.

Who knows, though.

Even if that is the case, one of them will fail, just like the PS4/Vita model didn't help the Vita.  Given Nintendo's history, I'm more inclined to think the home console will be the one that suffers.  Of course, if it is the handheld that looks like this, especially without physical buttons, I see a lot of gamers being turned off by it.

NX won't be anything like the PS4 and Vita. The most obvious difference is that the Vita didn't receive any notable first party support after the PS4 had launched. The Vita was pretty much worthless on its own.

It's not exactly the same, but it is very similar.  In fact, if they share the same os AND all the same games, there will be no reason to purchase both.  Well, except for the very small margin of gamers who want both for the extra computing power (if that pans out, anyway.)

Well if this is the new controller I'll wait for the handson reviews of it. But it looks like it wouldn't fit very well in your hands. I think what Nintendo should do is introduce a 3D gaming console, that would certainly be a revolution in gaming.

If this is fake it's a contestant for the best fake ever.

I came in here to see the new "fake" leak, as most Nintendo leaks tend to be (expect those leaked the day before the official reveal. Then I saw this and now I'm not sure it's fake. It fits some of the patents we've seen before. All the buttons will be on the touch screen in between the 2 analog sticks. There are shoulder buttons and and a headphone jack. Definitely a gryo and an accelerometer. So it can mimic a standard controller, or a game-specific interface. I will be surprised if this leak was fake. Unless they leaked it to get early reactions, in case they need to change it before E3, but I doubt that. It's not their style

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

if its genuine: what a terrible mistake by Nintendo. on screen physical buttons are extremely important for serious gaming, there is no way someone is going to be able to play a skill based difficult game with enough control using touch screen based buttons or weird mouse scroll things on the top of the handheld (or controller)

Lets hope to god this is a fake because this sort of controller is not what Nintendo fans want and most likely not what other types of fans want either.

Nintendo had an easy gameplan for the next gen: make a high spec handheld or home console that was HIGHLY accessible to all kinds of gamers. not do another gimmick nonsense. I respect them for trying to stay ahead of trends or attempting to make trends, but that controller looks awful for comfortable gaming, regardless of if it possibly is just a controller for the home console

It brings you back to thought of trying to game on a mobile phone with mainly just touch buttons (which can be absolutely horrifyingly bad for advanced games).

hopefully this is simply another person screwing around trying to validate the original photo in a troll way

I just dont get it. It's a worse, nerfed gamepad.

It would be the most simple controller on the market since the Wii remote. That alone would make up for any (unfounded) hardcore gamer fears. People know smartphones and touchscreens. They are used to them. The very fact that hardcore gamers are scared to death by these images shows how much potential it has to capture the mass market.

Of course, we have no idea if that even is the controller at this point so it's all speculation anyway.

take a risk in attempting to gain a ton of casuals and potentially Nintendo lose their ENTIRE fanbase? seems like a pretty dumb short sighted move.

I am extremely doubtful of this controller. a vast majority of diehard Nintendo fans (the type sticking around buying 10+ games for the 3DS or Wii U this gen) enjoy classical gaming and physical  buttons. This sort of 'smartphone' esque controller with touch screen buttons would be alienating their 'hardcore' market.

It might not seem like a big deal to you if you're thinking 'omg they'll get so many casuals!' but I think you underestimate how much software something like the core 10 million Nintendo fans probably buy. Nintendo is arguably the most 'fanboy' gaming company left. To go in the opposite direction of what their hardcore fanbase wants (more traditional controllers) is just crazy. Look at their most popular games- things like Zelda, Smash, and Mario Kart. The games pretty much require a controller with physical buttons (especially Smash and Zelda).

I just don't buy this

When I play a game I need to feel the buttons for when I switch from one to another, not being able to feel those buttons would be very annoying and sometimes confusing, unless they do something to compensate for that.

Nintendo wants to bring more third party games on NX?
How the fell want they make Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed playable on this thing... o.O

this. If its real then the hope would have to be that they are still going to add some more physical buttons. I don't care how good the haptic sticks are, good luck reconditioning how millions of gamers think of a controller layout magically out of thing air. People are comfortable with the two joystick set up, 4 (or so?) buttons, L/R sticks, etc.

if anyone here has attempted to play more 'advanced' games on mobile you know firsthand what a headache it is still at this point. Like not enjoyable. :/

The only problem with that is that people aren't buying smartphones for games. They're buying them for other purposes and then just getting smartphone games because they already have a smartphone.

Nintendo is all about the youngsters. If generation Z & Alpha is getting a headstart by using  phones/tablets, a device like this will be more natural to pick up and play.  The traditional controller  is going extinct. However, I'm sure Nintendo will have alternate control schemes and layouts.

the traditional controller is going extinct when the two 'winning' current home consoles (Xbox and PS4) as well as both of the surviving handhelds (3DS and Vita) ALL use traditionalesque controls? sorry mate but there is no sign of that

We never saw leaks of the GamePad did we?
