Lol, Kinda a non-story. We don't know how much Amazon had but one thing is for certain, it was an extremely small amount. People are putting too much stock into this... Yes that was a bad pun.

Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself and not the rest if us. Kinect and no other peripheral sold out period.

Yes that's exactly what is going on. Nailed it. Again it was a very limited supply.

EDIT: Not even worth another post to address it, it's common sense people.

The spin goes on.  The spin says, how can you say supply was very limited if you don't know the limit?

but why is being a fad a good thing for sony, when it was considered a bad thing for Nintendo :O

Don't see how it is a fad when it works with movies and core games and still uses a regular controller unlike Nintendo. Also third parties are supporting it. That is a difference as it is technology that can grow and improve games. Nothing Nintendo created has done that.

we will definitely have to disagree on that ^__-

yes yes

What makes it a success already?

well it is

-designed that way that the unit makes a profit

-amazon pre order are quite bigger than occolust rift in their private website

- it was sold out in the entire western markets by now, no infor about japan yet

A good share of that is probably scalpers looking to make some quick money on eBay.
But it's good to see that something new garners so much interest.
I'd get one too if I wasn't so poor. :(

There could be multiple explanations applicable here.

These are pre-orders; without knowing what the initial allocated total stock will be, we have no way of knowing what percentage of that is going to Amazon or even what number of units that translates to. SCE obviously can't take unlimited orders that have to be delivered on release day.

With a hot product, as was the case with the PS4, there will be a fair level of product flippers buying up supply, gambling on profiting with holiday secondary sales. If initial supply through 2016 is limited, this is a given.

So a fair amount of the initial buying is based purely upon speculation and VR hype. That's enough to drive demand to exceed Amazon's initial allocation.

But until SCE releases any sort of numbers, claiming that those initial allocations are small enough to belittle or conversely claim that PS VR will be the biggest hit of the holiday season for 2016 is way too premature.

Perhaps if it hadn't sold out it would have been because Sony sent out a hell of a lot of stock.

But no one would have said that of course ...

The PS5 Exists.

preorder available on amazon.de right now.

It's pretty easy to break individuals down to see where they stand in preferences based upon opinions stated. People can be a little too transparent at times wth their agendas.

But with regard to PS VR; it's not being released until the fall, leaving plenty of time for additional pre-orders. It should be interesting to see what type of sales are reported by SCE on release day.

I suppose SCE can stick a feather in their cap by reporting on how quickly the initial pre-orders were snapped up which is a good indicator of consumer interest; you can't really interpret this any other way. Presumably, production estimates will increase if the trend continues which should translate directly to more developer interest in the platform. No downside there.

Yeah but being a fad will help it get the foothold that it requires. If it becomes a fad it will gain the public exposure we want it to have :D

It has nothing to do with Sony. It has to do with VR. We want VR to become a fad so it can become popular. Like smart phones.
