Forums - Sony - PSVR Bundle Sells Out Within 4 Minutes On Amazon

If you were out of the loop, today online retailer, Amazon, opened up pre-orders for the PlayStation VR headset at 7:01 AM PST and it sold out within minutes - 4 to be exact.
Although we're not sure how many Amazon had available, the bundle retails for $499 and includes everything that hardware noobs might be lacking, including two PS Move controllers (we're very pleased these are coming back in style), a PlayStation 4 camera, the VR headset, of course, and on the software front, a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds, which includes the top games that Sony has demoed at media events, including The London Heist, VR Luge, Scavengers Odyssey, & Into The Deep, all on one disc. You can track PlayStation VR Worlds' release as well as PlayStation VR itself using our website. At this time, they're both expected for an October 2016 release date, without an official day during the month specified for its release.
It's encouraging to see VR take off the way it did this morning. More sales means more games for those who've put down their money. However, if I remember correctly, the PlayStation 4 was a hot item for all during its launch in holiday 2013 with most consumers not able to get the item until the following year when quantities finally became available. Could PlayStation's new VR headset be on the same route?

It's really interesting how fast these things are being sold without a clear must-own videogame to push the sales. Even the motion controlls craze had Wii Sports as a flagship title.

Which makes me wonder one thing. If VR really becomes popular and widespread enough, what will we see more, regular games adding a VR mode, or games completely made around the idea of VR?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Sony would be wise to keep a limited production of PSVR units until launch date. "Sold out" give a great perception to the general public and keeps it in the headlines everytime a new batch gets snapped up. They will have the initial userbase down, after that it is up to software and general reception as to whether or not the product really takes off.

Games have to be made around VR (unless they can be altered in some way) because if they're not they can make you feel sick and disorientated.

It didn't sell in out 4 minutes... it sold out in seconds.

I was refreshing the page every 10 seconds from 9:00-9:05CST and didn't see a single option to preorder. Finally when the preorder button actually showed up, and i clicked it -- it got rejected saying it was no longer available from that seller.

But aren't some regular games adding a VR mode? I think SW Battlefront and most of Sony's 1st parties are getting some form of VR mode.

Yes, but only if they're right for the experience. Cinema mode isn't VR, it's just the equivalent of having a cinema on your face.

Lol, Kinda a non-story. We don't know how much Amazon had but one thing is for certain, it was an extremely small amount. People are putting too much stock into this... Yes that was a bad pun.

it wasnt showing up on my browser initially but immediately showed up when i checked on my phone when i got my initial preorder in before it went out of stock the first time
