I agree. I think that publishers/developers could gain even more if they give all interested console manufacturers permission to market their console with the game and give all permission to make limited edition consoles with nice box art.
The one downside by doing so would be that some games might receive almost no advertisement because Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo wouldn't be interested in paying for marketing if it (the marketing) is shared with competitors.
Marketing and bundles will help, but being multiplat will definitely have an impact on sales

not pointless , look at AC:unity (bundle with x1) vs AC:S (exclusive mission for ps4) ; it help the x1 version to sell , even if it is behind the ps4 version , it will not be that far from it

That's true. Mass bundling like the XB1+Unity+Black Flag definitely impact sales split.
