Remasters and spin-offs. Not very exciting. And considering Zelda HD is most likely going to be on NX, this could be the worst Zelda gen.

To me the remasters/remakes make up for the lack of new games in some ways. I never considered HD remakes to be something that we should come to expect as Zelda fans, so the fact that there have been two (plus two 3D remakes) has been pleasantly surprising for me. Could you imagine what this gen would have been without the remakes/spinoffs? That would've been bad. Also, Zelda HD will still be on Wii U so technically it will still be part of this gen. That means we'll get:

Two new games (ALBW & Zelda HD)

Four remakes/remasters (OoT3D, WWHD, MM3D, & TPHD)

Three Spin-offs (Hyrule Warriors, Tri-Force Heros, & Hyrule Warriors Legends)

IMO it's hard to call that the worst Zelda gen.

The good thing is that they have basically remastered the entire 3D Zelda series this generation, Skyward Sword is the only one not to be remastered. That leads me to believe we wont have a bunch of remasters next generation.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

They have been releasing a Zelda game every year so it's not too surprising.. though most would prefer a new game rather than a lot of remakes

Wii U won't get its own Zelda title. This makes it easily the worst gen when it comes to Zelda.

Have you played the NES Zeldas that aren't named Zelda II? We've had worse.

You missed the GBA remakes of Zelda 1 and 2, and a couple other smaller ones that nobody tends to count.

That said it's been an alarming trend that Nintendo has continued to increase its volume of Zelda the past few years. I've gone on record before noting that there are about as many Zelda games from 2011-2016 as there were from 2001-2011. It's a trend that as a fan I don't mind but one that also worries me for the future, when we have to get three remakes and a spinoff to fill out a release lineup while they port Zelda U to NX.

Unfortunately, I think it's a one generation thing. Doubt it will continue with the NX, though I hope I'm wrong.

Knowing Nintendo, I'm sort of expecting an equal amount of side games if not more next gen. As long as Aonuma is involved Zelda will need a bunch of spin-offs to help us wait for the single new 3D adventure. Hopefully they won't re-port all of the HD ports or go overboard again because I'm not gonna buy any more besides Skyward Sword HD when they inevitably port it with new gameplay mechanics (and I hope to god with most of the fat trimmed - I can't spend another 20 hours on SS filler again).

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

And yet, only 1 of them is a brand new mainline game. And this game shares the same map with a previous one. So yeah... we, Zelda fans, are still waiting for a full brand new Zelda experience this gen. So far we've got some tidbits.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Totally agree.

Probably we will have SS HD on NX and maybe OoT 3D HD and MM 3D HD. :)
