Forums - Gaming - Xbox Survey Asks If You'd "Sell Back" Digital Games for 10% Purchase Price

Would you sell them back for that amount?

Yes 40 21.05%

No 150 78.95%

Total:190

What the actual fuck?

Microsoft is saying "hey, if you never play this game again, we'll give you six bucks."

They're not buying something back from you. They are paying you to delete it. It's fucking insane.

Why not just have a loyalty program that gives you 10% back (or even 5%) for buying games? It would have the same effect of getting you to buy more games, but you'd keep the game. Because what is the point of you deleting it? Who does that benefit?

Well durrr, right now if I own a digital game and I don't like / want it I can't realise any money from it. So of course if they brought in a 10% sell back option I'd use it. I wouldn't mind a slightly higher sell back % but 10% is better than 0%. But I'd also want a refund facility along the same lines as Steam. I really hope PSN and XBL implement refunds.

You regret it down the line, maybe they resell you the same game again. Double sales on 1 game, to the same person! score.

You regret selling the game, and your down a game to play, your more likely to buy a new game.

You think "I can get 6$ back,... maybe I should buy it digitally (instead of physical)" and give ms a higher profit margin on game sales.

well... 10% is better than nothing. I guess it's less valuable than physical goods, but then again the digital prices should be lower aswell and they aren't.

For games for which I know I'm finished with, definitely! Not every game I download is a classic that I want forever so although 10% is low, its better then the 0% I recieve from deleting the game from my HDD and never playing it again lol

You're only going to get back their currency.  So, if you're selling them a game, you were already planning on buying more.  If resale value is an issue, you're better off buying it physical.  A membership with Prime or Gamers rewards gets you 20% off, so you're already ahead without resale value.

They are somehow assigning a monetary value to you not playing a game.  They're not paying you for a product, they're literally paying you not to use a product.  It's baffling.

Fill me in, why are they even considering this? They're gaining what? Are you winning 10% but losing a game while Microsoft loses? Is there a stock limit of digital games? I don't understand.

Encouraging more store transactions through giving consumers credit. At least thats my initial thought

Your right... that way of thinking just makes the 10% seem even worse.

It's amazing how you currently get nothing for your digital games yet getting 10% back is now a bad thing.

Well, it's basically a slap to the face considering that you can trade in physical copies for a much higher percentage plus all of the other things you can do with physical copies that you can't with digital copies.
