To add onto the above post, not to mention Alan Wake had a goofy low res compared to other 360 games and yet it was gorgeous.

Agreed. Alan Wake ran at 960x544, (That's Vita resolution) yet it was still, in my opinion, one of the best looking games on 360.

I don't know why people are surprised, as I've said before, sub-900p Xbox One games and sub-1080p PS4 games aren't going anywhere, we saw this last year with Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield Hardline, and we will continue to see it. There will always be devs who choose to prioritize other graphical elements over resolution.

Nothing has been fully determined just yet ...

Digital foundry is waiting for a response from Remedy Entertainment ...

I'm curious at what granularity their doing the coverage tests ...

Well, were they explicitly talking about the Xbox when they announced 1080p? Maybe they meant the PC version! =D

He also mentions in the article that the effects are rendered in 720p.

"Geometry is handled separately and more inline with HBAO techniques with it all calculated at 720p (as many portions of a games render are made up of various resolutions) to help reduce its cost down to less than 1.4ms on the XboxOne GPU, this is also where some got confused with the game rendering at 720p which it does not, at this point 1080p is the games target output."

I know thats what he said. Thats why I said this is strange.

Apparently NX gamer's footage isn't direct feed.

It could indeed turn out the final game isn't 720p, but I wouldn't find it remotely surprising if it was. There have been enough 720p Xbox One games, (and sub-1080p PS4 games) that it's not a shocking thing anymore.

We should probably stop talking about resolution from this point onwards since the lines are blurring, we even got to the point where physics and gameplay framerate are not in sync anymore!

We can only talk about how fine or coarse for their samples are for a pass in the rendering pipeline and things will get even more confusing with multi-rate shading ...

Output resolution is 1080p, but objects are rendered in 720p? Can someone explain this a bit better?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

But wasn't QB supposed to be XBOX graphical power showcase?
Uncharted 4 is not sub-1080p.

I never mentioned Uncharted 4, but now that you mention it, its multiplayer is 900p.

It is to say that resolution is variable (and I don't mean dynamic resolution here) in the rendering pipeline ...

Thanks? Either way, game looks great, snd its still over a month till release date comes. But of course, the DF comments with the pcmasterrace and ps4 fanboy's all declaring victory again... sigh*.
