Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Finds a Hit With Its New Social App, Miitomo

20 million accounts that mean what if most of them dont bother continuing using it?

Continued usage of an app is how its success is measured, not how many ppl it downloaded it.

The account system isn't dependent solely on the app it has a much bigger range in the long term than the app, usage of the account is all that mainly matters and this is encouraged by the rewards system so if 20m download the app and don't use it much that's still 20m accounts for all of Nintendo's other ventures like the theme parks, consoles, portables and all.

Well, is it any wonder they reached the number one spot when all of Nintendo's fans probably got It? What will be interesting is to see if they can hold on to that spot and for how long

Pretty much this.

Wonder how this would have done if they advertised it more then

It may be old, but it is still strong. I haven't been in Japan for while, but during the time I was there, almost everyone used it. I eventually had to join in on it because many of my friends kept bugging me about it.

I wonder too, is Line of the social apps you use?

new apps with some appeal strike well on release. Just the nature of it.

 yeah I use line

I see. I don't really follow mobile apps, so I don't really know how it works with popularity.

I figured you had Line. Surely you know how popular that app is, haha...

Great news indeed. Now we need to see how long it lasts on the spot, but I find it hard for it to tank hard(download wise) in a few days. All in all a success(so far) for Nintendo.I wonder how much downloads will Japan be responsible for?

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Update:
Japan: Miitomo is number one on the Android charts as the top free download

Not really surprising at all.
It's a brand new app from a major developer in Japan. And these are weekly charts measuring the number of new downloads for that week. Of course a hot new app will take 1st place.
Question is how long can Nintendo manage to stay on the weekly charts and will their existing users continue to use the app in the long term.
Mobile is very fickle, one week an app might have 50+ million downloads the next month all their users have moved on to the next 'thing'. The key aspect in determining app success is longevity.

Good to see the app doing great, hopefully it has the same success in other regions.

Curious on how well the app ends up doing in other regions.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

So when does the app come out in the other regions?
