Forums - Gaming - Is PSVR already a success??

Given the pre-orders for day one units have been exhausted at many major retailers(Amazon UK, EB Games in Australia etc) and that the unit is still 7 months away from launching, is it safe to say the product will be a success? We all know that if an item is seen as desirable and the supply is low, that drives desire for the product even more. We saw this with the PS4 and the stock shortages, although that occurred after launch, where with the PSVR it occurred basically in one day. With media outlets reporting that the PSVR pre-orders are all sold out, will this drive more interest in it?

Nope. ps4 was also sold out in a matter of minutes in Japan when it was up for pre-order and we all know how much it has struggled there.

Unless we know some numbers, being out of stock doesn't really mean anything.

We dont know how many pre orders were avaiable, but " sold out" marketing is the best marketing.

Also if we talk about " long run " succes - the games library are the answer. PS Move was killed by lacking of good games :(

Fair call. I would say that the general reception to PSVR has been very positive in general.

Definitely agree about "sold out" being the best catch line. I think PS Move was killed by lack of games by motion controlled gaming being over-saturated by that point. VR is a fresh concept(Virtual Boy excluded...).

I'm sure the initial stock is limited, so they selling out fast is not that surprising. Until the product comes to the market, we have no way to know whether it's a failure or a success.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

The PS Move potential sadly hadnt even been touched. PS Move is great if we talk about precision and speed, so games like MMO,MOBAS,RTS ( all isometric games tbh ) etc will fit it perfectly. Unfortunately Sony sold Move and Navigation controllers separately, what killed the idea at the start.

Look at Diablo 3 on console - Move + Navi will do all the do job here, but Blizz hadnt implemented it solely because too smal userbase.

well, WiiU preorders were sold out aswell, but early demand probably was amplified by scalpers trying to make a buck and dropped off very quickly

both Occulus and Vive sold out first shipments very quickly, so scalpers probably hopped onto PSVR aswell - whether or not this kind of demand will persist is to be seen

Possibly. I hope it does well. VR seems really really awesome. I just wish I could demo it myself...

Wii U's here in Australia were available to puchase in store on day one. Unsure about the rest of the world though.
