Forums - Gaming - PS VR is selling accessories...Why?

PlayStation VR's release date announcement overnight has led to a huge rise in sales for its required camera accessory.

Sony announced a £349 price for PlayStation VR last night, though this price doesn't include the required PlayStation Camera or any optional Move controllers – PS4's DualShock is good enough for a VR experience.

On Amazon, sales of the PlayStation Camera are up 975 per cent, seeing its sales rank jump from No.215 to No.20. Amazon sells the camera for £39.

Similarly, the PS VR compatible Move Controller has seen its sales rise by 305 per cent, and a PS4 Camera Stand is also up by 243 per cent.

Gonna assume you didnt know that the camera is required for PSVr to work.

Why are you asking why?

Those are required(camera is at least) to use PS VR, and they're pretty cheap so people are buying them.

Not sure what part of that requires a question.

I'm not gonna lie -- I don't exactly understand that one.

My stand came WITH my camera -- but I bought it at launch.

is the camera even needed for the basic Cinema Mode?

Camera is needed for everything apparently for headtracking. This was shown at the end of the official Announcing the price and release date for PlayStation VR video:

... because people are gullible

I find it rather amusing. At the PS4 launch, there were loads of Playstation fanboys decrying the all the 'gimmicks' Xbox and Nintendo were foisting upon the industry and that's what made PS4 superior. Now there are diehard PS fans buying out all the 'gimmicky' hardware in droves.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

There is quite the difference between " forcing " and " offering ". U dont need camera to use ur PS4 or X1, but MS tried to forcing u to purchase it.

I just don't understand one thing

If the PSVR is supposed to "replace" your typical flat TV, why is the PS camera needed? I mean, can't I play my PS4 games on my bed using the cinematic mode? (silly question lol)

With all the big corporation pushing VR it as a good chance of being the standard in the future rather than a ''gimmick''

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

It tracks your head movments. It may work in cinema mode without camera but it could possibly break immersion if your head in virtual space is 100% still (i really dont know what im talking about shrug)
