Major UK high street retailer WHSmiths has priced the PlayStation 3 version of GTA IV at £44.99, while the 360 version will cost £5 less at £39.99. The pricing has been confirmed as part of the chain’s pre-order campaign: take a look at photos of promotional material after the link. Speaking to videogaming247 today, both Game and GameStation store managers said they expected the PS3 version of the Rockstar title to cost more than the 360 SKU, but neither outlet has yet priced the game. “The PS3 version will probably cost more. Might not be that bad. Sometimes people see the most expensive one as the better quality. It does suck that ps3 fans have to play more for the same game, esp this game as the 360 is getting more content. But, most people see gta as a ps game - so we will see. I think gta will sell better for the ps3 in PAL regions, but in N/A it will be the 360.

This sucks for Sony. Although it isn't as bad as DMC where the PS3 version cost 10 pounds more.

Could be because (all guesses)
A) PS3 users have more cash to burn?? More likely to pony up an extra $5
B) PS3 development went over budget and need to make up some cash
C) PS3 userbase too small to make a profit at $39.99
D) Rockstar pissed that Sony backed out of LA Noire
E) Part of the $50 million MS package... Who knows maybe they made a deal?

If I dropped £5 on the floor, I probably wouldn't bother to pick it up.
