I don't the point of comparing the sales of games with nothing in common. Another useless thread. Do you have too much free time??

Edit: this thread has 29 pages!!!! I can't believe how this could generate so much debate

I had a genuine LOL there. You mock the thread, me, and then realized we had a real discussion here.

What they have in common is they are both established 3rd party IPs that have exclusivity. At first people thought SFV was gonna trounce RotTR, but it didnt happen. So how things turned out was interesting.

The unfortunate thing is it's impossible to say if it was exclusivity or the fact it was released in such a poor state.

If SFV had been a complete game I think it would have helped.

By helped I mean: made it more clear if exclusivity hurt one more than the other.

They still shipped   over 1.2 Millions  for the PS4 in 6 Weeks, Tomb Raider sold Above 1 Million in 10 Weeks. and what are we discussing here ? is when, or is if Already Street Fighter V Surpassed Xbox One's Tomb Raider Sales ?,  or what Deal was better ?.

You need to focus the discussion in Something. if is about what deal was Better so Tomb Raider wasn't the better deal between the 2, they allready had made the game for all the plataforms, and they kept the game away from their Fanbase (PC, PS4) while Street Fighter Sold more on PS3, even on USA, where PS3 was 22-23 Millions behind Xbox 360.

Development of a game like The Witcher 3 take  over 60 Millions of US$, 1 Million of Sales = 60 Millions of Revenue, Microsoft purchased timed exclusivity because Uncharted 4 was to launch in the same month, in 2 Months the game sold 650-700 Thousands for Steam alone (Only had a 5US$ Discount until now) we don't know how well the game will do on the PS4, but they took the game away from the Fanbase because of some $,  Of course the game would sell Atleast 2.5-3 Millions of units before the Year's End with PS4+ PC Combined.

The question is how much money Microsoft gave for Square Enix ?,  of course they gave all the money to port the game for Xbox360, but i doubt they would pay the Full Development costs of the game when they could have made a game by their own, IF the Deal was below 40 Millions US$ so wasn't worth, Square Enix will have  problem to sell this game Full Price for PS4 in the end of the year, they will need to make a DLC to sell alongisde the game to sell it for 60US$.

We don't know what Sony Paid for Capcom but they are marketing it and they are making the tournaments.

These are what I feel are the primary reasons sales have been low.

1. To the average consumer it feels like SFIV with less content and a higher price.

2. Fighting fans are fatigued by the constant releases last gen.

3. Incomplete game makes potential customers wait for more and pay inevitably lower price. $60 for the little we got is pretty lame, esspecially given we have to grind for content.

SFV would have absolutely sold better if it felt more complete, maybe if had as much content as MKX. But sales were likely going to be down due to fatigue.

Remember when the game launched nearly 3 Months ago ? even today you can still Purchase every fighter with less than 1 Day (of normal Playing, not Maraton) of Griding, without paying nothing.

What are you trying to say about Tekken ?, KoeiTecmo is so small compared to Bandai Namco and Tekken is the best selling fighting game franchise with Huge worldwide appeal  the game will not launch first for Japan and later for USA, isn't like Atack on Titan, if they don't announce a Xbox One Version so will be pretty hard to believe that there will be one.

Why do you think BC have any appeal on selling consoles ?, and why do you think that people who already have the game itself and the console (Xbox 360) would purchase a Xbox One because of it ?, PS2 Emulation and XBOX One's BC have the same effect on sales, and the effect is non-existent .

I Don't remember very well because i made the calculation some months ago, but the Average Xbox One users spend over 5-15 Seconds per day on BC, and from the 2 Millions who got the Gears of War  BC-Titles, if was the only game played on BC, would means 4.5 Hours from people this means that a lot of people skipped it.

In 35 Days they spent 9 Millions of Hours on Xbox Backwards from November to December, if the Install base was 18 Millions this means 30 Minutes per Xbox One user in 35 days, this means a average of 51 seconds played of BC per Xbox One user, Halo 5 in the 3-5 Days of launch had 21 Millions of hours played (if i remember well).

Backwards don't sell consoles they are just a good function for who already own the console, Any new game don't matter if is Small or not already is worth more to sell the console than any kind of Backwards,  Backwards don't have the appeal for who already had the game to make they purchase a game, in 1 Month Backwards on Xbox One was played like a game who sold 300 Thousands units and was played average 30 Hours, but 1.7-2 Millions of people got Gears of War 3 because of the bundle, the number of Backwards are low because a lot of people got Gears of War.

For the Average usage of 51 Seconds per day any game have a Average playtime bigger than this, this shows that the people who user Backwards isn't majority, neither is something big Xbox One had 18 Millions of units but just 1/4 of the players used Backwards, this is over 5.7 Minutes per day, is low for a New function  that is supposed to sell consoles, the Month of Launch and Gears of War backwards, the number should be bigger.

The average user wont use X1 BC. But millions will, its added value and much of that 360 content is arguably better than many 8th gen titles.

Also, the amount of people using BC depends on the games. As more games come to the service, more people will obviously use it.

Either way, were way off topic because you wanna downplay Xbox content and features. You have a history of going way off topic and this is no exception. This conversation is over.

By the numbers Swordsmasterman posted it would hardly show million of users actively engaged with the game.

Rare Replay is likely nearing a million sales between physical and digital. So... that alone is a lot of people using X1 BC.

And again, the amount of people that take advantage of it grows when games come to it. If millions havent used X1 BC yet, they will down the road. CoD and Red Dead are coming for example.

Lastly, way off topic and lets drop it.

So Rare replay (a collection of games) that most were out before X360 is your proof of a lot of people using BC, are you serious? Then we can say PS3/PS4 are the most sucessfull BC consoles with all the sales of Remasters.

You were the one saying Millions were already using it continually. Now you are moving the goal post a lot and decide to drop the point?

Yes but that's just to simply compare the sales.  No problem with this,  that's what the site is for.

But you're going on about it being a bad deal.  Maybe both are bad,  maybe both are good.  But we know which one is worse in terms of lost potential sales.

As far as we know SFV deal looks much worse. Look how Tomb Raider DE did on PS4. RotTR may still sell a couple million on PS4.

What's SFV gonna sell on X1? Zero.

BUT! We don't know how much either company was paid for exclusivity. I'd say its a safe bet Sony paid more for SFV than MS paid for RotTR given one was temporary.

I'd say it's a safe bet considering Microsoft had to cover a lot more lost sales than SFV would have.

Tomb raider sells multiple times better on ps4 than x1. Multiple.  You're potentially loosing a lot of sales.

SFV would sell multiple times better on ps4 than on X1. I'd say capcom were happy with a lot less than SE wanted.

Almost top 20 again in the UK charts

Great legs!!!!
