Well... Fable hasn't had something notable since 2012 2010. Fable Legends had a great presentation but average gameplay. I'd argue it could hurt the IP, I'd rather see that game released without the Fable name if at all.

Studios that work on a single IP need to do better than Lionhead was doing.

I like how some here ignore that Sony does it As well.

I don't think people are ignoring that. It's just that it's been a long time since a studio of such magnitude closed down.

Lionhead was never really a top dog in the industry IMO.

Third party studios do it also I already mentioned Bizzare Creations.  Criterion Games exists in name only and Team Bondi went out buisness in 2011.  All of those where on the same level if not bigger then Lionhead Studios at their prime.

Agreed and if they would have stayed with EA they would probably gotten disband earlier.

2011 was five years ago. My point is there hasn't been one like this in a good while, and the shock people feel only accents that point.

Well the last game by Criterion Games Need for Speed: Most Wanted came out in 2012 and that game is better then pretty much everything ever made by Lionhead Studios except maybe Black and White but they made Burnout games that are better then Black and White.

To act as if this isn't a big deal is to ignore the bigger picture, here.

Well the writing was on the wall the last good game they made was Fable II and that was almost eight years ago.

How many have they destroyed so far to earn that title?

Digital Anvil. >:( (Freelancer.)
Fasa Studio's. (Mechwarrior.)
Ensemble. (Age of Empires.)
And now Lionhead. All amazing studio's which put out some extremely high-quality, highly regarded games.

They still don't hold a candle to EA though, I'll never forgive them for what they did to Bullfrog and Westwood. lol

Closing down lionhead, creators of Fable and Black and White is a massive loss to the industry and a massively missed opportunity by Microsoft.

The only way this would have been a big deal if they actually made something decent recently.  Criterion Games and Team Bondi no longer being around is a bigger deal since their last/only games where actually good.

They really didn't have a choice to focus on games other than Fable. - Black and White showed that they had some amazing creativity in that studio, would have liked for them to have had more creative freedom to work on other projects.
