They don't have a gym, but there's most of the time an Elite 4 trainer who masters them (Karen, Sidney, Grimsley). That has to count.

my dream: having like 18 gyms in a region, and a could choose 8 of them to go to elite four.
And elite members didnt have to be monotype.
and PWT back, i loved that place! BW2 is my favorite pokemon game because of PWT.
Somebody here watch the same video I did?? Just had a YT vid recommended to me about the lack of Dark type gyms
The only reason I could think of is because in Japanese Dark type is actually named Evil which represents dirty underhanded tricks, being mean/nasty, and sly/stealthy as well as just darkness. So in that sense I guess having a gym leader who is supposed to be a role model teaching children to use dirty tricks to win and to be nasty wouldn't be too great.
I would love a Dark type gym though it's one of my favorite types along with Fairy and Ghost.

I used to care about gym leaders, the elite four, and their types, until I realized that all they are are a giant tutorial for Pokémon types. Now I just with I could skip them. I already know how the dark type works. I don't need an entire boss fight and dungeon dedicated to teaching me it. There's nothing fun or interesting at all about them at this point. It's only useful for new players.
I heard some fan theory that Dark type specialists are generally mistrusted by the general population, so they tend to get brought into the Elite Four so they don't have to worry about local sentiments and other tough trainers can keep an eye on them. Hence, we have 0 Dark gyms despite every other type except Fairy having at least 2. The trio of Dark type members of the Elite Four and Pokemon League makes sense when you realize that the most common Elite Four types are Dark, Psychic, and Ghost. These three Spooky Scary types combined have 5 gyms and 9 Elite Four positions.
As for what I'd like from a Dark gym, I'm thinking about a possible throwback to Koga's ninja theming. Yes, ninja are often associated with the Poison type in-universe, but it seems like a good choice for Dark as well. Ninja would be the ones to make sure every damaging move had a secondary function.
The Gym puzzle could also refer to a few existing examples. Ecruteak's Ghost gym in Gen 2 uses invisible pathways, Dewford's Fighting gym in Gen 3 uses a decent darkness-based puzzle, and Hearthrome's Ghost gym in Platinum mixes flashlights in darkness with a maze. Something like this with a vertical component, and maybe some hidden ninja trainers, would be great.
ThE Gym Leader themself would use a Geninja at some point. Because obvious connections still need to be made. Besides that, Leaders usually have three to four Pokemon maximum. Some decent Ninja-esque candidates could include Zoroark, Weavile, Bisharp, and Shiftry. That would leave a big weakness to Fighting types, but that's par for the course. His signature Move/TM could be Hone Claws, Thief, Payback, or Snarl.
Hoping for one in moon version.

I don't really mind what the gym types are as long as they don't start you off with a rock type when you want to choose a Fire Type and have no good Pokemon to catch along the way to counter it..
Luckily, there hasn't been a gym like that since so I don't really mind what type they are
Would be neat if the Elite Four and Champion didn't have a specific type and their Pokemon parties varies when you fight them
