While I'm not a fan of the locked DLC thing going on with amiibo lately, calling it the worst thing to happen this generation is a long-shot. Paying to play a game online takes the cake for that. Up until recently, amiibos had zero impact to the overall gameplay of games like Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, etc. Super Smash Bros U did offer a unique amiibo functionality that wouldn't exist without it.

I do agree that Twilight Princess HD and Kirby are taking the amiibo functionality towards the wrong direction. It should be like Pokken Fighters where the amiibo only gets you instant use of the "DLC" but you could still unlock it without the need of an amiibo.

i agree. Amiibo is a bullshit practice. basically content hidden behind a rather expensive paywall. but hey, its nintendo, everything they do is amazing. but lets criticize Activision for actually giving content in their DLC map packs, because they are over priced... right?

Amiibo content is harmless enough, having to pay for online services is my bug bear of the industry. Thankfully Nintendo haven't gone down that route yet and Im disapointed Sony did.

i agree, having to pay for online is annoying (thanks, microsoft). but at least they try to justify the price you pay, with the games every month, online storage (this is awesome, btw) and features like share play.

I get your issues but at the same time my collection of 20 or so Amiibo is a beautiful thing. I think the problem is that not everyone wants the figures, and if you don't want the figures then they certainly do just become overpriced DLC. That being said, I'm afraid I won't stop supporting the figures for your sake, I like them too much.

Nintendo are very crafty at making people pay for missing content, it all started with Pokemon. Now these toys, FE etc

Amiibo has made Ninty millions, atleast more than WiiU has so it's actually a good thing. (for now)

If you don't like Amiibo, don't support it by not buying it.
It's that simple.

What did they lock in TPHD?

They locked a dungeon called "the cave of shadows" behind the wolf link amiibo.

I don't see anything wrong with that as it wasn't part of the original game. Plus its a tacky dungeon addon that adds no vlaue to the story to support the amiibo. If the amiibo did nothing then people would complain it's a useless one lol.

Here's the issue.

People don't want to buy amiibo just to get that extra content, however it is a collectible figure.
They want to give people who buy the amiibo extra stuff, so it just gives them more out of owning it:

That's where it comes from.

So people will complain about having "locked content"
And people will complain about not having those extras for the amiibo they bought.

I love amiibos and I think you just have to suck it up and either buy or not buy them. Cause they definitely aren't going anywhere.

It's 1 stupid map. Seriously, people will complain about "locked features" just because ONE map was added for amiibo?

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.
