Annual releases CAN be ok, but only if the innovation and quality remains... which is impossible.

I don't think there is anything inherently bad with annual released games. As long as titles remain excellent and high quality, then there isn't really that much of a problem with them. A lot of annual series games still sell well, so it doesn't seem bad at all.

Personally though, I would suffer burn-out from these series. I've felt it with the Mario and Pokemon series, hah.

Pokemon is only annualized. If you count the remakes. If you don't, it's not. I don't count them. They aren't new. Why people hate annualizing, is simple. Two reasons. First, the team working on the game has only so much time to build the game. This usually ends up causing lack of features. Then bugs. Second, and really most important reason. Eventually, you are gonna run out of anything you can think of, that's new, to put in the game. Eventually, people will get bored. And the franchise dies. Best examples are ROCKBAND & GUITAR HERO.

Only reason why Pokemon main series are rarely glitched-up is because Gamefreak stopped working on other titles. Then again, Pokemon games aren't ctrl+c and ctrl+v. Usually side games are fun enough to let them take the focus off the main series

The problem people have with COD is the game itself, not so much that is an annual franchise. COD is now a franchise for - very simplistic - online playing, not saying that's a bad thing. It just doesn't resonate with everyone. Back in the day it used to have pretty good offline content as well.

Offline story is all that i play in COD. Since the stories have been pretty much lacking since MW2, I hold off on getting them for a good bit.

Because you know that the developer only made annual games for money.

I actually would like some franchises to more to a regular 2 year cycle even if it means 2 teams working on them, some of the best franchises that are not churned out yearly take years to create yet it's the yearly iterations of FIFA, CoD and such alike that sell loads. I think is some other franchise did more games they'd also sell more too.

Hmm, pie.
