You're not understanding me. I mean narratively incomplete. There are Pokemon and concepts that have completely been abandoned in Gen 6. I think it was Pokemon UK who specifically called it a new generation of Pokemon. |
Oh, okey, I haven't read that confirmation. I'll be honest with you, I've never cared about Pokémon narrative, so I'd rather prefer to have brand new Pokémon to fight. Though I can obviously understand your POV if you're interested in Pokémon narrative.

Well, it would at least have been bigger considering that everyone was expecting Z or X2 Y2..

The only reason Pokemon has survived this long is because of its narrative, lore, and world building. The way they're ending this generation, as bad as it's been, is a huge blow to be honest.

I'm not sure about that. I think what keeps people glued to the franchise is the fights, the possibility of social interaction with trading and its charming world, with different areas each gen and very well crafted. The lore... Maybe, I'm not sure, that's definitely not what's keeping me buying Pokémon since 20 years, but I can't speak for the vast majority.

No, but there's not really a point in making a new generation for old hardware just to complete an old generation on new hardware. Unless it was a DQ11 situation where the two versions were completely different and only had the story in common, I'd be even more pissed. I don't care about Pokemon being on NX by itself. I care about Pokemon using better hardware to finally fucking evolve. Playing Pokemon these past 20 years has been equivalent to Nintendo making OoT, MM, WW, TP, and SS all top down games while the world around them embraces the new tech. You can already see from the concept that the games are still top down, and that's because of the hardware restrictions. If Sun and Moon are also on the NX, and they still look the way I can already tell they'll look, that's the point where the games will have reached stagnation for me. Everyone has their limit. 20 years with no real progress is reaching mine. |
It would've been likely top down anyway because it's part of the tradition since the beginning. Even on GameCube hardware, they stuck with top down for the most part. In many ways, it has evolved. I could never battle in Y or Black the same way I could battle in Red or Gold because of the new features in the battle mechanics. New types, changes in stats, addition of nature and special abilities, etc. have evolved the battle system and the worlds have evolved through each iteration as well.
Personally, all I see is the trailer being more of a nostalgia trip, celebrating 20 years of Pokemon. Seeing all the people trading, battling, and connecting (which is their main theme here) through each generation really shows how consistent each game has been to their core, even throughout the games' evolutions. I guess the short tease of Sun and Moon does appear underwhelming unless you've taken a chance to see hints of potential scenes and stuff. Who knows why they didn't reveal much from these games. It's like ORAS, but showing how Pokemon has evolved up to its anniversary.
its kinda funny how Nintendo appears to have underwhelming initial reveals for their games this gen besides Smash Bros. and then they suddenly have better trailers since and then people get more hyped. It'll probably still be a great Pokemon experience like previous gens (at least for me since I've enjoyed all the generations of Pokemon). I do wonder what's the new region and does it have connections to all of the various hints that came from Kalos?
I'm really hoping they would make a bigger Pokemon game for the current-gen. It seems it's just going to be another Pkmn X and Y with new pokemon and continent.

I'm in the same boat as you. I never really got into the lore until gen 3 and even then I didn't fully understand what's going on, and I grew up with gen 1. I was just mesmerized with the new Pokemn and new worlds to travel in.
Its kinda like Star Wars, when you grew up with the old films or new films, you were mostly mesmerized by the fight scenes and the out of this world atmosphere. As you grow older, you're more interested in the story and characters and how they develop.
| RolStoppable said: Sure, there is. The same point as releasing remakes. Give people an opportunity to visit a different region and story between the releases of a generation. Black & White 2 already broke the old pattern for the third version, so why should it stop at that? Pokémon's stagnation is by choice. If the developers wanted to make 3D worlds, they could have already done so on the Wii while having online to keep the trading aspect of the series. They could have changed the perspective on the 3DS as well. I don't think anyone should expect better hardware to result in a drastic change for the Pokémon games, because it simply isn't something that the developers want to do. A big part of the reason why Pokémon has been continually successful is because new games don't lock out newcomers, so players who quit the series were replaced by an influx of new players. |
I don't believe for a second that its by choice. There are nearly 1000 completely different pokemon when counting formes (not counting Spinda who's formes are algorythmic) and megas that have to be rendered. Having all that, plus an overworld that's built to scale with those models, plus NPCs that are also built to scale with those models, plus behavior animations for all wild Pokemon isn't possible on the 3DS. N3DS could barely handle XB3D, and that isn't even a fraction as complicated or detailed a world to render as a real 3D adventure game in the pokemon universe would be. It's not a choice. It's a crutch.

That's literally all these games are going to be. The sooner Gen 7 ends, the better.
